Honor Roll Richard Ray Watkins, a Fieldcrest scholarship recipient, made the Honor Roll at the University of North Caro lina, Chapel Hill, during the fall se mester, 1962-63. He made a grade of “B” or better on all work taken (not less than 15 hours). In a letter to Richard’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Watkins, the dean of the General College, J. Carlyle Sit- terson, pointed out that less than six per cent of the students in the General College achieved such high academic distinction. “It is a pleasure to congratulate you on the fine work of your son,” Dean Sitterson wrote. Richard is a 1962 graduate of More- head High School. His father is a loom- fixer at the Bedspread Mill and his mother (Daisy) is a weaver in the same plant. At the University, where he plans to major in business administration, Rich ard is being assisted financially by a Fieldcrest scholarship worth $2,000 over the four years of college attendance. To date, the Fieldcrest Foundation has granted a total of eight scholarships and is scheduled to give additional scholar ships each year to employees or children of employees who are entering college for the first time.
