July, 1963, marked the completion of 40-year records with the company for ' Sverre K. Stranger, of the Fieldcrest sales division, and Willie A. Berry, of the Napping Department at the Finish ing Mill. Mr. Stranger, who attained 40 years of continuous service July 26, was pre sented his 40-year service pin by Arthur S. Thompson, vice president-sales of the Fieldcrest sales division. The presenta tion was made early at the Los Angeles sales meeting since Mr. Stranger was not to be in New York until after the anniversary date. Mr. Berry was visited at the mill on his anniversary date by President Har old W. Whitcomb and was presented with his 40-year service pin. Both Mr. Stranger and Mr. Berry received letters of commendation from President Whit comb. Born in Oslo, Norway, Mr. Stranger started with the Marshall Field & Com pany wholesale division in Chicago in 1923. He was with the Zion lace curtain division and his first selling job was as city and suburban salesman in Chi cago. He later started traveling on the road in Indiana and Ohio. Mr. Stranger was in military service during World War II and after his re turn was assigned a territory covering 11 central and southwestern states. While traveling the Southwest he lived in St. Louis a part of the time. When the Zion Lace Curtain Mill was closed in 1952, Mr. Stranger was trans ferred to the Fieldcrest sales division. He was assigned to northern California to develop accounts and sell directly in the smaller towns of the area. His terri tory has since been enlarged to include Nevada. He makes his home in San Bruno, California. Mr. Berry, a native of Stokes county, began his career with the company in 1921 but left to return to the farm. He was re-employed July 31, 1923, and has continuous service since that date. He has worked in the Napping Department at the Finishing Mill during the entire time. He was a napper operator from 1923 until 1936, except for one year when he served in the Army. He was an assistant foreman in the Napping Department for 14 years and worked six years as a second hand- finisher. He has been employed as a Gessner napper operator since 1956.
