Mr. Long, a native of Henry County, Va., was first employed at the Blanket Mill October 15, 1S63, and has never been off of the payroll since that time exce-)t for his service in World War II. He has worked in the Cotton Carding Department during his entire 40 years of service. He first operated “speeders”, then was a roving inspector, and for the past approximately 20 years has been a drawing tender. GEORGE E. ZEIGLER, JR. . . . Textile Engineer . . . LEAMAN W. BYRUM . Assistant Foreman . Zeigler, Byrum Join Fieldcrest In new appointments effective Octo ber 1, George E. Zeigler, Jr., was em ployed as a textile engineer in the Engi neering Department at Spray and Lea- man W. Byrum joined the company as an assistant foreman in the Carding and Spinning Department in the Bed spread Mill at Leaksville. Mr. Zeigler came to Fieldcrest from The Kendall Company, Textile Division, in Charlotte, where he had been em ployed for the past 12 years in pur chasing and engineering capacities. A native of Thomasville, Ga., Mr. Zsigler received his B. S. M. E. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1S41. He served in the Navy for five years during World War II, completing his service with the rank of lieutenant commander. Mr. Byrum was born at Salisbury and before joining Fieldcrest had been em ployed by J. P. Stevens & Co., as a spin ning department supervisor at Roanoke Rapids. He earlier was associated with a number of other southern textile com panies as a spinning or carding and spinning supervisor.
