they can enjoy greater leisure with a
monthly pension for life paid for by
the company.
It was pointed out that the current
market value of the Pension Trust is
in excess of $11*/^ million. In June of
this year the company made a payment
of $500,000 as its contribution covering
the year 1962.

administered by the Wachovia Bank and
Trust Company of Winston-Salem as
trustee. Payments made to the :"und
can not be recovered by the company
and must be used solely for the benefit
of employees eligible to participate i;i
the Pension Plan.
Pensions paid under the Plan are in
addition to, and completely separate
from, any payments received through
Social Security. The company, of
course, also pays half of the cost of
employees’ Social Security benefits.
In the latest group of retirees, Hugh
T. Lee, of the Karastan Mill, with over
50 years, led in length of continuous
service. Clyde S. Shaw and John W.
Martin, both of the Towel Mill, had 44
years each. George D. Williamson, of
the Sheeting Mill, had 43 years and

Gastonia Native Is Appointed
To Post At Muscogee Mills,
Unit In Columbus, Georgia
The appointment of Thomas H. Sher
rill as assistant manager of Muscogee
Mills, a Unit of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc.,
at Columbus, Ga., has been announced
effective Monday, November 18.
Mr. Sherrill was assistant manager
of the Eagle & Phenix Division of
Reeves Bros., Inc., in Columbus from
1959 until he joined Fieldcrest. Prior
to that, he was plant manager of the
Itasca Division at Itasca, Texas.
With Reeves for 14 years, he served
as foreman, cost supervisor, assistant
superintendent and superintendent at
plants in South Carolina and North
Carolina.
He was in the Navy during World
War II, first serving as a seaman and
later as an aviation cadet. He received
his B. S. degree in textiles from North
Carolina State College in 1949 and
joined Reeves Bros, as a foreman im
mediately after his graduation.
A native of Gastonia, Mr. Sherrill
married the former Betty Jane Bridges,
of Shelby. They have two children,
Linda Jane, aged nine, and Thomas, Jr.,
three. The family lives at 2625 Auburn
Avenue, in Columbus.
