A major improvement in canteen
service at the Leaksville mills has been
rnade through the installation of full-
line vending in the Bedspread and
Karastan Mills.
The latest-tj-pe automatic machines
have been placed in central locations in
those mills to dispense fresh-brewed
coffee, hot chocolate, milk, bottled
drinks, hot or cold sandwiches, nine dif
ferent kinds of soup (hot in the can),
pastries, candy, potato chips and cig
arettes. Also included are a change-
maker and a condiment bar.
A battery of 10 vending machines has
been installed in the Karastan Weave
Roorn similar to those already in the
Burling and Finishing Department and
the Setting Department. In addition
there are other machines placed
throughout the mill vending coffee, hot
chocolate, pastries, candy, etc.
A special room was built in the south
west corner of the Spinning Room at the
Bedspread Mill with entrances from the
Spinning, Winding, Weaving, and Dye
ing departments.
Smaller installations are already in
use in the Cloth Room and Weave room
and coffee and Coke machines are
placed throughout the mill convenient
to all employees.
Income from the Canteen Service goes
into the Fieldcrest Foundation, a non
profit organization for promotion of re
ligious, charitable, scientific, literary
and educational causes.
Recent projects include scholarships
for employees or children of employees
and extensive improvements to recrea
tion facilities at playgrounds throughout
the Tri-Cities.
