Fieldcresters Form New Quartet At 4:05 each Sunday afternoon, many radio sets are tuned to WLOE for songs by The Fieldcresters, a male quartet with fast-growing popularity in the lo cal area. Members of the quartet are Frank Setliff, a Draper mail carrier, first ten or; Harold Squires, Draper Standards Department, second tenor; Dan Squires, Makes Dean’s List Sheeting Mill, baritone; and Chester Hooker, Blanket Mill, bass. The pianist is Joy Y. Woods. The quartet has had a regular pro gram over WLOE for the past several months in addition to numerous person al appearances. The Fieldcresters sang at the recent Man-of-the-Year program of the Leaksville-Spray Exchange Club and appeared on the latest program sponsored by the Land of Eden Gospel Sing Association. Organized two years ago, the quartet grew out of the Draper Y.M.C.A. male chorus. Edward Gerringer was first tenor at the start, but had to drop out because of a throat ailment. While the Fieldcresters are primarily a gospel singing group, they also sing popular, barber shop, and western num bers. They sang at the recent Tri-City Mer chants Association’s annual meeting and entertained at Christmas programs for Litho-Web employees, the Fieldale Ro tary Club, and the Draper firemen. They are available for special pro grams at churches, civic clubs and other organizations. Dan Squires is the busi ness manager and handles the bookings. The Fieldcresters say that they form ed the quartet because they love to sing and that their quartet wtirk brings them greater satisfaction than any other ac tivity to which they could devote their off-duty hours. Margaret Ann Talbott, a junior at Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, made the Dean’s List for the winter quarter. Margaret is majoring in elementary education. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grayson Talbott of 210 Willow Street, Leaksville. Mr. Talbott is a machine fix er at the Bedspread Finishing Mill. Blood Facts The Red Cross Blood Program during 1962-63 provided approximately 50% of the whole blood used in the nation, along with about 50% of the serum albumin, and slightly less than 20% of the gamma globulin.
