Lux, Patterson Receive 50-Year Awards

Mr. Lux was first employed June 22,
as an office and floor salesman in
Blanket Department of the Marshall
leld & Company Wholesale Division.
^6 continued in that capacity until 1924
^hen he became a road salesman for
lankets and curtains. He traveled in
^issouri and Kansas at first, but later
klahoma, Texas and Arkansas were
sdded to his territory.
He continued to serve in the same
'^^Pacity until 1945 when he was pro
moted to Blanket Department manager
in charge of sales to distributors. He
became Blanket Department manager in
1947 and served until 1951. From 1951
until his retirement July 1, 1964, he was
manager of the Chicago office in our
Fieldcrest Sales Division.
Mr. Patterson, who was born near
Price in Rockingham County, began
working at the Nantucket Mill in Spray
July 1, 1914 and was in the Nantucket
Beaming Department for several years.
He was the first silk warper, starting
when the Nantucket Mill was experi
menting with silk, and for several years
was a silk warper at the old Lily Mill.
Mr. Patterson’s 50 years divide evenly
into 25 years on beaming and warping
operations at the Nantucket and Lily
Mills and 25 years as a napper operator
at the Finishing Mill where he has
worked since 1939.
A member of the First Christian
Church of Leaksville-Spray virtually all
his life, Mr. Patterson has been a deacon
for 15 years.
Mr. Patterson is married to the for
mer Beatrice Manley who formerly
worked at the Bleachery. They have no
children. They have owned their home
for several years at 722 Greenwood
Street in Leaksville.
R. H. Hair Elected By
Data Process Assn.
Robert H. Hair, manager—data proc
essing at Fieldcrest Mills, has been
elected president of the Piedmont Chap
ter, Data Processing Management As
sociation.
The local chapter is comprised of ap
proximately 125 data processing pro
fessionals employed in industry, com
merce, and government throughout
piedmont North Carolina and Virginia.
The Data Processing Management As
sociation is an international organiza
tion of more than 16,000 members who
promote progress in the use of electronic
computers, punched cards, and other
means of handling information.
Mr. Hair is a native North Carolinian
and a graduate of the Massachusetts In
stitute of Technology, where he majored
in engineering and business administra
tion. Prior to joining Fieldcrest in 1956,
he was employed by the Procter &
Gamble Co. and also served four years
as an officer in the U. S. Air Force.
Mr. Hair holds a Certificate in Data
Processing and has served as a member
of the Advisory Committee in Data
Processing for the N. C. Department of
Public Instruction.
