LIVELY Cotton Purchasing Department Reorganized The following additions enlarging and strengthening the Cotton Purchasing or ganization of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., have been announced by President Harold W. Whitcomb: Herbert J. Muller joined the company August 1 as resident cotton buyer for the Memphis territory with his office in the Cotton Exchange Building, Front Street, Memphis, Tenn. Effective August 17, Richard M. Tip ton joined the Fieldcrest Cotton Depart ment at the General Offices in Spray as assistant purchasing agent for cotton; and Charles W. Lively joined our Cotton Department as buyer and classer and will be located at the Muscogee Mill. Mr. Lively, in addition to receiving and classing cotton for our Muscogee Mill, will also purchase cotton on the Georgia and Alabama market for Mus cogee and other Fieldcrest operations. It was announced that D. A. Young will continue as commission buyer on the Greenwood, Miss., market. All of these men will report to Hurdle H. Lea, Jr., director of raw materials purchasing at the General Offices in Spray. Mr. Whitcomb said Marvin Woolen, who has acted in a consulting capacity to our Cotton Department since last No vember, will continue in that capacity until November 1, 1964. In commenting on the new appoint ments, Mr. Whitcomb said: “These new men have had excellent experience in buying cotton in the various territories and have also been associated with well- known and highly-regarded firms in the cotton trade. “It is my opinion that we now have a strong cotton purchasing organization which will make a substantial contri bution to the company’s operation.” Mr. Muller formerly was associated with McSpadden & Company of Mem phis. He began his career in the cotton industry with Bland & Brooks in Mem phis, in 1929. He next was with Manget Bros, in Newman, Ga., and George H. McFadden & Bro., in Memphis, as a cotton classer and buyer. He served three years in World War II and after the war was a cotton buyer with W. D. Felder & Co., Memphis, and Crespi Cotton Co., in Dallas, Texas. He was a buyer for McSpadden & Company 1956-1964. Mr. Muller is unmarried and makes his home in Memphis.
