Veteran Employees At Alexander Plant Manley L. Whitaker (at right, above) has the longest record of service of any employee at the Alexander Sheeting Mill, Forest City. He hauled brick for the construction of the present Carding and Spinning building in 1918. He began working in the spinning room and has worked there for over 45 years. The Whitakers have one son and two grandsons. The son is Dr. Mack Lee Whitaker, chairman of the Mathematics Depart' ment at Virginia State Woman’s College, Radford, Va. Ellen Laughridge (at left, above) has the longest record of any female employee at Alexander. She has worked there since 1921 and has lived at Alexander Mills since 1918. She recalls that her family was the third family to join the community. 16 Blanket Weavers On Quality Honor List A total of 16 Blanket Mill weavers made the quality honor list for the six months ending September 30. Guinan Speaks At 25-Year Club Meet (Continued from Page Seven) of the Karastan Mill, was master of ceremonies at the meeting in the audi torium at Burton Grove School, Leaks- ville. He introduced the 11 new mem bers and pointed out that the members of 25-Year Club represent 5,280 years of rug-making experience. Entertainment at the program was provided by Marie and Patricia Rieson, students at the Ray Hollingsworth Stu dio of Dance, in Leaksville. Marie and Patricia are daughters of Garvin Rieson of Karastan and Elizabeth Rieson, of Bedspread Finishing. Jones W. Norman, industrial relations representative, conducted the drawing for attendance prizes. The winners were Hugh Dillard, of the Washing Depart ment; and George S. Thompson, retired Weave Room employee, who received Happiness rugs. After the invocation by O. W. Ben son, the 25-Year Club members enjoyed a luncheon in the school cafeteria. Muscogee Program Employees at Muscogee Mills, Colum bus, Ga., who are members of the Fieldcrest Mills 25-Year Club will be honored guests at a supper to be given by the company at Muscogee Lake Sat urday, October 24. The program will be held in the din ing room at the lake and will feature a talk by A. L. Jackson, mill manager. T. H. Sherrill, assistant mill manager, will be master of ceremonies at the event and the drawing for attendance prizes will be conducted by J. B. O’Neal, personnel manager. Fund Campaign Still In Progress At Mills The Tri-City Community Fund caiH' paign in the mills was still in progrep as The Mill Whistle went to press Fri' day. Haven H. Newton, general chairmao of the campaign at Fieldcrest, said the results of the drive would be announced through The Leaksville News and Th® Mill Whistle as soon as the solicitatioi^ is completed and the final reports received from all mills.
