If the S-edfctioS come true, it will be the first time the textile indus try has ever spent, or been able to spend, more than a billion dollars in a single year for modernization and expansion The actual prediction is for an expenditure of $1.02-billion, than a quarter of a billion dollars over last year s record-setting total of $760-million. If you are preparing to retire froin your job, you will also probably be thinking about filing for your Social Security. The people at the Social Security Of fices are ready to assist you, but there are certain things you can do in advance to speed the processing of your claim. First, be sure to have your social se curity card with you when you call at the Social Security Office. Also, you will need to furnish proof of your age. If you do not have a birth certificate, some old document such as an insur ance policy that shows your age or date of birth can be used. You should take a copy of your 1964 W-2, Withholding Statement, with you. If your wife is eligible to receive benefits on your record because she is at least 62 years of age, she will need to furnish some proof of her age. A birth certificate recorded at or near birth should be furnished if available. If a birth certificate is not available, an old document such as an insurance poli cy which shows her age or date of birth can be used. Birth certificates will be needed for all minor children, including stepchil dren and adopted children. Difference May Appear In Income Tax Refund Was the amount of your refund check different from what you expected? “Don’t be disturbed—you will receive an explanation for the difference with in a few days from the Internal Rev enue Service,” J. E. Wall, district direc tor of Internal Revenue, said. When a refund income tax return is received in the Chamblee Service Cen ter, it is carefully examined for obvious errors or omissions. If there is an error in arithmetic, a correction is made after the information on the return has pass ed through the computer. A refund check is then issued for the corrected amount of a refund. In the meantime, a detailed explanation for the difference is mailed to the taxpayer im mediately. However, this notice may not be received until after the taxpayer has received his refund check. Director Wall said that “When you receive your refund check, if you dis cover that the amount differs from what you expected, please wait a few days before contacting Internal Revenue.” But, after receiving the explanation for the difference in amounts, if there are any questions, address your inquirj' to the District Director of Internal Rev enue for your area.
