Studies Nursing Deborah (Debbie) Baker is attending Rowan Memorial School of Nursing in Salisbury and has successfully com pleted her first semester there. Debbie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Baker of Summerfield. Mr. Baker is the plant engineer at the Foremost Screen Print plant, Stokesdale. Susan Beth Stewart Susan Beth Stew art, 12 years old and a seventh grade stu dent at James E. Holmes Junior High School, is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grover D. Stewart of 207 South Fieldcrest Road, Draper. The mother, Juanita A. Stewart, is a switch board operator at the General Offices and a grandmother, Susie H. Adkins, is employed in the Yarn Preparation Department at the Blanket Mill. Trains At Great Lakes Seaman Recruit Elvin L. Teague, Jr., USN, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin L. Teague of 302 Circle Drive, and husband of the former Miss Linda G. Edwards of 107 N. Gordon Street, all of the Spray area, has been graduated from nine weeks of Navy basic training at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, 111. In the first weeks of his naval service he studied military subjects and lived and worked under conditions similar to those he will encounter on his first ship or at his first shore station. In making the transition from civilian life to Naval service, he received in struction under veteran Navy petty of ficers. He studied seamanship, as well as survival techniques, military drill and other subjects. Seaman Recruit Teague’s father is a chauffeur in the Fieldcrest Traffic De partment. Square Dancing Popular Activity At ‘Y’ Square dancing is a “fun” activity at Consolidated Central YMCA. Pictures on the opposite page show members of the Y-Promenade Club as they go through some of their fancy steps and figures. The club, first or ganized in 1953, includes many Field- cresters among its members. Roy Martin, formerly a Fieldcrest supervisor, is president; and J. E. (Jim) Jones, manager of canteen services at Fieldcrest, is secretary and treasurer. Trent and Hilda Ramsey Trent of Fort Benning, Ga., was three months old when this picture was made. Mrs. Trent was formerly employed in the Central Ware house office. Mrs. Cooke (Louise) works in Accounting Department at Gen eral Offices. studied and practiced sufficiently to become experts. Mr. Martin said the purpose of the club is to provide fun, relaxation and good fellowship and that its activities furnish wholesome recreation for men and women of all ages as well as foi children and teen-agers. Many mem bers bring their children to the dances and special recreation is arranged for the youngsters. Mr. Martin pointed out that there has been a revival of square dancing and that there are clubs all over the coun try, including a number of clubs in Win ston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, Burlington and other nearby cities. The Y-Promenade Club usually has dances on Saturday nights in the “Y” gymnasium. Sometimes the clubs from Martinsville and Collinsville, Va., visit here and the local club in turn meets with them. All of the clubs feature Appalachian and Western style square dancing, comprised of a large number of figures and singing calls. Spectators are welcome at the dances and new members are invited. Those wishing to join should do so now since instruction will be given learners at all of the dances in January. The club pre fers to teach six or eight couples at a time.
