Consolidated Central YMCA.
Pictures on the opposite page show
members of the Y-Promenade Club as
they go through some of their fancy
steps and figures. The club, first or
ganized in 1953, includes many Field-
cresters among its members.

studied and practiced sufficiently to
become experts.
Mr. Martin said the purpose of the
club is to provide fun, relaxation and
good fellowship and that its activities
furnish wholesome recreation for men
and women of all ages as well as foi
children and teen-agers. Many mem
bers bring their children to the dances
and special recreation is arranged for
the youngsters.
Mr. Martin pointed out that there has
been a revival of square dancing and
that there are clubs all over the coun
try, including a number of clubs in Win
ston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point,
Burlington and other nearby cities.
The Y-Promenade Club usually has
dances on Saturday nights in the “Y”
gymnasium. Sometimes the clubs from
Martinsville and Collinsville, Va., visit
here and the local club in turn meets
with them. All of the clubs feature
Appalachian and Western style square
dancing, comprised of a large number
of figures and singing calls.
Spectators are welcome at the dances
and new members are invited. Those
wishing to join should do so now since
instruction will be given learners at all
of the dances in January. The club pre
fers to teach six or eight couples at a
time. The new members will be taught
the basics and after the four January
sessions will be able to dance with the
club.
