Substantially increased benefits un der the Hospital, Surgical and Medical Insurance Plan at Fieldcrest’s southern plants were announced last week to become effective Monday, April 1. The improvements are for the pur pose of keeping the plan up-to-date in view of the continually rising costs of hospital, surgical and medical care and provide greater protection for em ployees and their dependents. The hospital room allowance was in creased from $15 a day to $25 a day for a maximum of 70 day®. Hospital extras continue on the basis of $150 plus 75% of the balance up to $1,000. The maximum surgical benefit was raised from $200 to $300 and the anes thesia allowance was raised from $40 to $60, maximum. The maternity bene fit and the obstetrical benefit were in creased from $75 to $100 for each. The allowance for in-hospital medical ex pense (doctor’s visits) was raised from $3.00 per day and a $150 maximum to $4.00 per day and a maximum of $280. An important improvement for par ents with sons or daughters in college was a change in eligibility for depend ents. Under the revised plan, full-time students up to age 23 are allowed as dependents!, whereas the former plan covered them to age 19. Other Fieldcrest insurance coverages such as group life, accidental death and dismemberment, dependent life, acci dent and health, supplemental accident benefit, outpatient diagnostic procedure, etc., continue as before. Employees who were currently in sured under the group insurance pro gram automatically became insured un der the revised plan effective April 1.
