‘Fieldcresters’ To Be
On Television June 2
“The Fieldcresters,” well-known, local
gospel singing quartet, will appear on
WUBC, Channel 48, in Greensboro, Sun
day, June 2. They will be on the “Pied
mont Gospel Program,” which is tele
cast from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
It will be a return appearance on the
UHF station for “The Fieldcresters,”
who appeared on a program several
weeks ago.
“The Fieldcresters” have a regular
program over WX,OE at Eden at 4:45
p.m. each Sunday. The quartet also
makes many personal appearances at
revivals and other special church serv
ices. While it is primarily a gospel sing
ing group, the quartet sings popular
songs at programs, of community or
ganizations and business firms.
Two sets of brothers with Fieldcrest
connections comprise the quartet. Har
old Squires, of the Draper Standards
Department, is the second tenor, and
Dan Squires, of the Sheeting Mill Spin
ning Department is the bass. Frank Set-
liff, first tenor, and Bill Setliff, bari
tone, are sons of J. E. Setliff, a retired
Blanket Mill supervisor.
Joy Woods, a nurse at Morehead Me
morial Hospital, is pianist for the quar
tet. Dan Squires is manager and serves
as master of ceremonies. Persons in
terested in obtaining the quartet for
special church services, homecoming,
revivals, etc., may make arrangements
through Dan Squires.
Catch Big Turtles

Billy W. Trent and Howard Bran-

caught in the Smith River. One turtle
weighed 37 lbs. and the other 24% lbs.
Mr. Trent is employed in the Carding
Department at the Bedspread Mill and
Mr. Brannock in the Karastan Weave
Room.

Awarded Scholarship
Karen De Lancey, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl R. De Lancey of Route 2,
Ruffin, has been awarded a $300 schol
arship for nurses training. This award
is given annuaRy by District No. 7 of the
North Carolina State Nurses Associa
tion to a deserving senior in high school
who has been accepted by an accredited
school of nursing in this state.
Miss De Lancey wiU graduate from
Ruffin High School May 31 and will en
ter Watts Hospital School of Nursing in
September,
In high school she has been a mem
ber of the Beta Club, French Club, and
Monogram Club. She was the recipient
of the Brookside Academic Achievement
Award for this year. She was also se
lected by a faculty committee as an Out
standing Senior—one of five—based up
on leadership, character, service, and
scholarship.
Miss DeLancey’s mother, Naomi De
Lancey, is employed in the Sheet Finish
ing Mill and her father is a former
Blanket Mill employee who is now dis
abled.

College Grads^ Pictures Wanted
The Mill Whistle wiU publish pictures of employees’ sons and daughters, in
all of the company’s divisions, who have graduated or who will graduate from
a college or university this summer.
The parents should fill in the coupon below and send it with a photograph
of the graduate to The Mill Whistle, Fieldcrest Mills, Eden, N. C. 27288, or they
may hand the material to one of the plant reporters for The Mill Whistle.
It is not necessary that the graduate be wearing a cap and gown. If the
parents do not have a photograph, the graduate can usually obtain one from
the studio that made his or her picture for the college annual.
If there are any employees’ daughters to graduate from hospital nursing
schools we, of course, wish to include them, too.
