CLARK C. CHOWNING MELVIN L. SMITH JOE S. CHATMAN PHILLIP J. OSBORNE New Appointments Announced At Blanket Finishing Mi Clark C. Chowning and Melvin L. Smith were appointed assistant super intendents at the Blanket Finishing Mill effective January 1. Joe S. Chatman was appointed fore man of the Channel Blanket Depart ment and Phillip J. Osborne was named foreman of the Cutting and Sewing De partment. Mr. Chowning has been with Field- crest since April, 1966, and first worked as a management trainee at the Blanket Warehouse. He later was assistant fore man and foreman in the Storage and Shipping Department. He became as sistant foreman in the Blanket Cutting and Sewing Department in November, 1968. He was promoted to foreman Jan uary 1, 1969, and served in that capacity until his latest appointment. Mr. Smith joined the Company in June, 1967, as a management trainee at the Blanket Finishing Mill. He was an assistant foreman in the Beck Dye De- FREDERICK M. POWERS Frederick Powers Named To Training Staff Post The appointment of Frederick M. Powers as supervisor of mill training on the central training staff of the Indus trial Relations Department, Eden, has been announced, effective recently. Mr. Powers previously was foreman of slashing and weaving at the Blanket Mill, having joined Fieldcrest in Jan uary, 1968. He has served as foreman of weaving at the Hill Division of Bates Manufacturing Company in Lewiston, Maine, and earlier was general over seer of weaving for several years at Gaffney Manufacturing Company, Gaff ney, S. C. A native of Andrews, N. C., he re ceived his B. S. degree in business ad ministration from Western Carolina College. He served in the Air Force for four years between high school and college. Sandra Denise Shorter Sandra Denise Shorter, pictured here when she was four months old, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shorter. Mr. Shorter is super visor in the Data Processing Depart ment at the Fieldale Towel Mill. Sandra is the granddaughter o f Mrs. Marie Barker, an employee at the Blanket Mill; and niece of Mrs. Judy Gammon, an employee at the Sheet Finishing Mill. Tamara Richardson Tamara Lynn Rich ardson is the seven- month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack T. Richardson. Mr. Richardson is an of fice clerk at the Karastan Service Center. Tamara Lynn is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Rich- Mrs. Jo Eggers. Mr. now retired, was a guard at the Karastan Rug Mill; Mrs. Eggers is employed in the Cut and Sew Department at the Sheet Finishing Mill. % ardson, Sr. and Richardson, Sr., partment and in the Cutting and Se"'' ing Department. Mr. Osborne was employed as a m®®" agement trainee at the Blanket Finish' ing Mill in June, 1969. He was appoint® assistant foreman in the Cutting Sewing Department in November, and continued in that position until promotion to foreman.
