Ed Patton Seeks Volunteers For Scout Work ED PATTON It has been said “A man never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a boy” and by this definition, Edward L. Patton, Dan River district chairman of the Boy Scouts, is a tall-standing man. Mr. Patton, who is Fieldcrest’s re search director, has b e en involved in Scouting since child hood (he was an Eagle Scout) and now, as district chair man, he would like to see the local area realize its Scouting potential. The Dan River dis trict has 600 mem bers. Mr. Patton said it should have a thousand. He is at tempting to improve the district Scout ing program and increase enrollment. One of the needs is for adult volun teers. There are four committees which are presently shorthanded: (1) “Publicity”, which acts as a liai son with the news media; (2) “Organ ization and Extension'* for establishing new unts; (3) “Leadership Training” which is designed to set up training courses for Den Mothers, Scoutmasters, Explorers, etc., and (4) “Exploring,” working with Explorer Scouts. Three other committees, “Finance,” “Advancement”, and “Camping and Activities” are filled but Mr. Patton said there is always room for addition al help in any department. The chief requirement for Scout work in any capacity is enthusiasm. He said adults in this area will get a chance to see what has been going on in Scouting at the Rockingham County Scout show “Expo 70.” This event will be primarily a merit badge show which will consist of display booths illustrating the theme, “Scout ing in Action”. “Expo 70” is scheduled for Satur day, April 18, at the Reidsville Armory from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Troops 502, 508, 526, and Pack 8 from Eden will be participating.
