Jaycee Candidate Visitor At Fieldcrest Store Bobby Brooks, Fieldcrest regional canteen manager, and Jimmy Wright, assistant vice president of Leaksville Bank and Trust Company and past president of the Eden Jaycees, are ac tive in the campaign of Larry Ward who is a candidate for the presidency of the North Carolina Jaycees. Mr. Ward, who visited the Eden Jay cees recently, is employed as a mort gage loan officer of North Carolina Na tional Bank in Durham. He joined the Greensboro Jaycees in 1961 and be came a member of the Durham Jaycees in 1967 when his bank transferred him to Durham. With an outstanding record in the Jaycee organization, Mr. Ward has been the recipient of high Jaycee awards and has held numerous local and state of fices. He was vice president of the North Carolina Jaycees in 1968-69. Completes 40 Years | Gertrude E. Kinight has completed 40 years of continuous service with the Company and has been presented with the Fieldcrest diamond-and-gold 40- year emblem and a letter of commenda tion from G. William Moore, president of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. Miss Knight has continuous service since April 7, 1930, when she was em ployed in the Sheet Stock Department at the old Spray Bleachery. She work ed as a billing clerk and as an order checker until 1944, by which time the Sheet Stock Department has been mov ed to Central Warehouse. She then was a second hand and later an assistant foreman in the Sheet Stock Department and in 1950 was transferred to the Sheet Packaging Department as a sec ond hand. V- Don’t Be An Absentee WORK EVERY SCHEDULED DAY GERTRUDE KNIGHT In 1962 she moved to the new Sheet Finishing Mill as a second hand in the Packaging Department but shortly af terwards became a scheduling assistant in the Sheet Scheduling Department at Central Warehouse. In 1968 she was appointed an advanced scheduling Clerk at the Sheet Finishing Mill and contin ues to work in that classification. Miss Knight, a native of Henry Coun ty, Va., worked in the Sewing Depart ment at the Fieldale Towel Mill at Fieldale, Va., during the summer when she was attending college. Thomas R. Smith, assistant director of domestics quality control, was moted to director of domestics quality control effective April 1. He continues to report to Stanley M. Ellington, J*'" assistant director of technical service®' Mr. Smith joined the Company October, 1968, as a quality control eP' gineer, coming here from Dan Riv®’' Mills where he was a production sup®’-' visor. He also had worked with But' lington Industries and the Rockfisl*' Mebane Yarn Mills during the sumffl®’^® while attending college. A native of Dunn, he received hi® B. S. in textile technology degree fr®”^ North Carolina State University an® engaged in additional studies at University of California, Riversid®’ Calif. He served in the Air Force June 1963 until September 1967, was discharged with the rank of cap' tain.
