Early Training At Fieldcrest Mills Pays Off In Navy A Fieldcrester serving with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean, has re ceived a letter of commendation from his commanding officer praising his initiative, professional performance and devotion to duty.” He is MR2 Johnny A. White who was an assistant development technician in the j Mechanical Develop- m e n t Department when he entered the Navy in December, 1967. J MR2 White was serving aboard the mr2 white U. S. S. Austin (LPD-4) when a vital main feed pump became inoperative due tO' a burned out thrust bearing. Be cause of the lack of replacements and the urgency of the ship’s mission, it was decided to make the new bearing. The timely repair of this important machinery was made possible by the efforts of MR2 White who cast, milled and polished a new bearing manufac tured from scrap and salvaged parts in a small shipboard machine shop. MR2 White’s former co-workers at Fieldcrest, John T. Macisaac, Jr., di rector, and the men in the Mechanical Development Department are especially proud of the young sailor’s accomplish ment because, they said, “he received his early training here.” MR2 White is married to the former Kay Carter, of Route 2, Madison and they have a 21-month-old daughter. ftH E MI I.L WHISTLE Copyright, 1970, Eden, Issued Every Other and Friends of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc.
