Whether they are seeing the modern office machinery, the computer center, or the telephone switchboard, they seem fascinated and large numbers of student-visitors tour the offices each year. Fieldcrest is host to many high school and college groups who usually visit in the spring. Their visits follow a general pattern, beginning with a tour of the building with guides pointing out the functions and interesting facts about each department. The tour is followed by a meeting in the confer ence room with the program tailored to meet the interests of the specific group. Sometimes, Lou Stophel, secretary to Dr. L. H. Hance, speaks to a group on secretarial procedures and opportunities at Fieldcrest. A bookkeeping class from Ruffin High School in terested in computers heard a talk by Carol Hasten, manager of General Offices Information Services, on “An Overview of Data Processing.” When the Stratford College Chapter of the Busi ness and Professional Women’s Clubs visited, Jack T. Carter, executive employment manager, spoke to them on the general subject of women in manage ment. He made a similar talk later to business edu cation and secretarial seniors from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. A group of business administration students from Danville Community College heard a talk by Ronald Blackwell, manager of information systems, on “Data Processing in Modern Business Concepts.” John Goodman, general accountant, explained the different machines and the departmental functions in the Accounting Department to a group of junior high school students visiting as part of the Eden City Schools’ Middle Grades Occupational Explora tion project. During National Secretaries Week there was turnabout: four Fieldcrest secretaries visited More- head High School and presented a program for the Office Preparation Occupation class. As a follow-up, a number of the students were brought to Fieldcrest to sit in with secretaries for part of an afternoon to observe secretarial work be ing performed in the General Offices. One explanation of the local students’ interest in the General Offices could be that the visitors often are acquainted with former schoolmates who now work here and that many of the local students hope to work at the General Offices after their graduation from high school. to' Don’t Be Conspicious By Your Absence WORK EVERY SCHEDULED DAY THE MILL WHIS
