Grandson Of Retirees Becomes Veterinarian Paul Wayne Minter of Albuquerque, New Mexico, graduated in June from Colorado State University with a degree in veterinary medicine. He is the son of Reuben and Hazel Minter, formerly of Eden, and the grandson of Mrs. Cora Minter and of Garrett Cochran, both retirees of Field- crest. While in high school in Albuquerque he was a winner in the Botany Division of the International Science Fair and a member of the Honor Society and Latin Club. He was president of the Science Club in 1963. The graduate is marled to the form er Elizabeth Welsh of Albuquergue and they have a son, Sean. He has accepted a position with a veterinary clinic in San Francisco, California. Evening Bowlers Plan Organizational Meeting The organizational meeting of the Fieldcrest Evening Bowling League will be held Thursday, August 27, at 7:30 p. m. at the Bowling Center, Eden. George Minter, president of the lea gue, urges everyone interested to at tend if possible. He hopes to have 12 teams organized this year and would like to have representatives from all mills (especially the Bedspread, Blanket and Sheet Finishing Mills) present at the meeting. Mr. Minter, a retired Sheeting Mill supervisor, says that the Bowling Cen ter is under new management and has been redecorated and repainted. New pins have been installed and the lanes, which have been resurfaced, are prac tically trouble-free now. SAFETY Fieldcresters Quartet To Appear At ‘Sing' “The Fieldcresters”, along with a number of other groups, will partici pate in a gospel singing program at the Draper First United Methodist Church Sunday evening, August 30, starting at 7 o’clock. The Fieldcresters quartet is com posed of Dan and Harold Squires, who are employed at Fieldcrest Mills, and Bill and Frank Setliff, sons of J. E. Set- liff, retired Blanket Mill supervisor. Mrs. Joy Woods, a nurse at Morehead Hospital, is their pianist. Other gospel-singing groups to take part in the program are the “Believers Quartet”, of Martinsville, Va.; “The Ambassadors”, Danville, Va.; and “The Realistics”, from Altavista and Dan ville, Va. A special guest singer will be 10-year- old Sharon Sheckels, whose grandfather, Guy Medford, is a long-service em ployee of the Sheeting Weave Room, now retired. The public is cordially invited to the “sing”, said Dan Squires, manager of the “Fieldcresters”, who is heading the arrangements for the special program. Mr. and Mrs. Gilley Have 50th Anniversary /■ / w: Mr. and Mrs. Jesse G. Gilley of Eden were honored on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary with a re ception given by their children at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene A. Black burn. In addition to their children and local guests, several out-of-town guests at tended. Eleven of the couples’ 12 grand children were present. Mrs. Blackburn, who is employed in Fieldcrest’s Data Processing Depart ment, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilley. Join the Credit Union Second And Third Shift Employees Invited To Bowl In A. M. League Fieldcrest Mills will again sponsoi the Morning League at the Bowlin Center and will furnish the trophies a® usual. The league gives employees ® 1 the second and third shifts an oppo'^' tunity to bowl during the morning®' usually on Tuesdays at 10 a. m. Calvin Bouldin of the Bedspread Weave Room, who has been secretary of the league, said second and thir” shift employees are invited to teams at their mills or in their depan' ments.
