and chairman of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., talks with a group of Fieldcrest Scholars.

pott, Woolwine, Va.; Mr. Moore; and Donald Lawson, Eden.
Luncheon Honors Fieldcrest Scholars
The management of Fieldcrest Mills,
Inc., gave a luncheon at Meadow Greens
Country Club August 27 in honor of
the Fieldcrest Scholars—the sons and
daughters of employees who have re
ceived scholarships given by the Field
crest Foundation.
Attending the luncheon with the
scholarship recipients were G. William
Moore, president and chairman, other
officers of the Company, and Clyde
Pressley, admininstrative assistant,
Lcaksville Township Public Schools.
Mr. Pressley represented John M.
Hough, schools superintendent, a mem
ber of the Fieldcrest Scholarship com
mittee.
Mr. Moore made a brief talk in which
he gave the background of the scholar
ship program in which 51 scholarships
have been awarded since 1960. Many of
the Fieldcrest Scholars have made out
standing records in college and in their
later careers, he said.
Dividend Announced
Directors of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. Au
gust 25 declared a quarterly dividend
of $.35 per share payable September 25
to holders of record September 11. This
dividend is the same amount as was
paid for each quarter of 1969.
He emphasized the importance of ed
ucation today and said that the schol
arship program of the Fieldcrest Found
ation helps to bridge the so-called gen
eration gap. The program is evidence
that business is interested in helping
young people—that adults are interest
ed in helping them with educational op
portunities.
Mr. Moore pointed out that there are
“no strings attached” to a Fieldcrest
Scholarship. “While we hope that some
of you will come back and join Field
crest, a Fieldcrest Scholar is under no
obligation to work at Fieldcrest or even
in the textile industry,” he said.
Praises Scholarship Program
Mr. Pressley, in brief remarks, said
“We think very highly of the Field
crest Scholarship program and we are
impressed with the quality of the
youngsters who have gone through this
program. We would welcome you back
to teach here, if you plan to be a
teacher. We really want you.”
He said the Fieldcrest Scholarships
have added an element of quality anid
a realistic goal to aspire to and the
program will take its place among the
great ones in the country.
He commended Fieldcrest for the
