Murray Bedspr® Ralph Pickup, as superintendent ot cutting and sewing at the Fieldale Towel Mill, has responsibility for the cutting, sewing, inspecting and pack aging of all towels manufactured at Fieldale. He has served in his present capacity for approximately 14 years. He was born in Philadelphia but has lived at Fieldale since he was an in fant. He worked on various production jobs throughout the Fieldale Towel Mill during the summers while attending high school and college. He graduated from Martinsville High School and re ceived his B. S. degree in industrial engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. A reserve officer, he entered the Army immediately after graduation and served 41/2 years with the Corps of Engineers. For 3V2 years he was with General Mark Clark’s Fifth Army in Africa and Italy. Mr. Pickup returned from military service in 1946 with the rank of captain. Twenty-Five Years Rivers L. He was appointed a shift foreman in the Cutting and Sewing Department in 1952 and was promoted to superin tendent in 1956. He married the former Lorene Bry ant, a Fieldale native who for several years was employed in the Fieldale Towel Mill Accounting Department. They have one daughter and two granddaughters. Mr. Pickup is a member and a past president of the Lions Club. He and his wife are members of Fieldale Baptist Church. The Pickups live on Merriman Road at Fieldale. Twenty Years F.
