I am writing this letter to let you know that Fieldcrest }yill observe the letter and spirit of the Act and will con tinue to maintain safe and healthy working conditions tor employees, as we have through the years. A summary of the new law appears on page two and biore information will be given to you during the next Several weeks. Much work has been and is being done to tit our own Occupational Safety and Health Program into he federal plan and we are reviewing our physical fa cilities throughout the Company to make sure we com ply with the federal standards. For the most part, the practices now required are al ready well-known and widely followed by many busi- hesses. These practices are now a matter of federal law, With new provisions for record-keeping, reporting, in specting, and penalties. MOORE Chairman of the Board The board of directors of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. on July 27 elected William C. Battle as president and a director of the company, it was announced August 4 by G. William Moore, chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Mr. Battle since 1951 has been a senior partner in the law firm of McGuire, Woods and Battle WILLIAM C. BATTLE with offices in Richmond and Charlottesville, Va. He was United States Ambassador to Australia from July, 1962, until October, 1964, and was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Virginia in 1969. He was a member of the State Department Ad visory panel on International Law 1966-68 and is a member of the Virginia, West Virginia and American Bar Associations and of the interna tional law section of the American Bar Associa tion. He is a member of the board of directors and a member of the executive committee of the Vir ginia National Bank. Active on the state and national political scene, Mr. Battle was closely associated with the cam paign of John F. Kennedy from the West Virginia primary through the nominating convention and general election in 1960. He managed successfully the campaign of William B. Spong for election to the U. S.
