M ./a IT’S THE REAL THING! — Sand and sea water from the shores of Waikiki Beach are in the bottle that Terrie Buckner (left) shows to Pamela Dove. Both girls are employed in the Karastan Service Center Billing Department. Couple Rendezvous In Hawaii There’s a little bit of Hawaii right here in Eden. Terrie Buckner, an employee of the Karastan Service Center Billing De partment, recently traveled to Hono lulu to be with her husband, Rodney, who was on rest and recuperation leave from Vietnam. When she returned she brought a small bottle filled with sand and sea water from Waikiki Beach, a reminder of the happy time she spent in the “Aloha” state. For Terrie it was only the second time she had seen her husband since they were married. It’s been mostly a long distance romance for the couple. “We were even engaged by telephone,” Terrie said. “He called from Ft. Camp bell, Ky., where he was stationed, to ask me to marry him.” The wedding date was December 13, 1970. Rodney arrived on December 12 and returned to duty on January 8. As Terri put it, “it seemed like he step ped off the plane, down the aisle, and back on the plane again.” Her husband is scheduled for dis charge on January 10, 1972, but Terrie has her fingers crossed for an early discharge, one that will bring him home for Christmas. “If he’s not home for Christmas,” she said, “we will just have to have Christmas twice!” Rodney is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Buckner. Mr. Buckner is assist ant manager of the Fieldcrest Store, Eden, and Mrs. Buckner (Loraine) is employed in the Data Processing De partment, General Offices. Rodney’s brother, Kevin, is an employee of the Sheet Finishing Mill.
