Fieldcrest Is Named In Fortune’s ‘Top 500’ Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., holds 437th place in Fortune magazine’s annual ranking of the 500 largest industrial corpora tions in the U. based on 1971 sales of $227,275,000. Fieldcrest ranked 433rd a year ago, based on sales of $211,629,000 in 1970, and has been on the “top 500” list since 1963, with a ranking of 486th on the list for the first year. In categories other than sales, Field crest now ranks 114th on 12.7% net income as a percent of stockholders’ eo.uity; 140th with its 10.22% earnings per share growth rate 1961-71; 185th 8 on 4.7% net income as a percent of sales; 305th in the number of employees, 11,801; 332nd on net income of $10,- 640,000; and 430th on assets of $160,- 567,000. Among other textile firms listed their rankings based on 1971 sales, were; Burlington Industries, 65th, down from 56th !a.st year; J. P. Stevens, 145th, down from 133rd; Springs Mills, 340th, down from 329th; Cannon Mills, 342nd, down from 331st; Cone Mills, 346th, down from 338th; Dan River, 351st, down from 344th; and Collins & Aikman, 427th, down from 420th. Jerald Jeffries, a loom fixer in the Bedspread Mill Weave Room, and J®® Chatman, foreman of the Channel Bla^' ket Department, Blanket Finishing Mm, own a couple of pre-1940 cars that rna ® the fanciest 1972 models look drab. Both the vehicles have been rebuilt, reupholstered, painted and shined to * lustrous finish and are now show or “street rods” as they are called by car fanciers. Mr. Jeffries’ “Little Bum” is a 19^3 Plymouth with a Chrysler motor, mouth transmission and de Soto end. It is painted bright red and decor' ated with gleaming chrome. Featured In Magazine “Little Bum” was featured, with full color pictures, in the December issue of “Hot Rod” magazine. The P'®' tures were taken at the Memphis N® tional Street Rod Run, Memphis, Teum which Mr. and Mrs. Jeffries attende in August 1971. Mr. Chatman’s “Little Bandit” is ® 1933 Ford truck painted a bright sha of purple called “plum crazy”. Mrs. Chatman helped her husband polish and wax car for the Greensboro car show •ryl’ the Chatman’s four children, ^ Jerry, Kelly and Pam, also shoW great deal of interest in it. Mrs. Jeffries (Gwen) is the booster in the family. Mr. Jeffries that she encouraged him to rebuild car after it was wrecked several y® ago. Their son Jamey takes care ^ polishing the chrome, a big job on “street rod”. Both families enjoy Sunday afte^®^, pleasure rides and frequently gether with other “street rod” own Their cars are a source of prid® jj them.
