Receives Promotion Third Shift Weave Room Wins Championship The third shift Weave Room softball team at the Fieldale Towel Mill won the regular season and playoff cham pionship in the Fieldale Towel Mill League. The winning record was 14 wins, one loss for the season, plus three wins, no losses in the playoffs. Other teams competing were second shift Weaving, third shift Yarn Prep aration and second shift Spinning. The winning team received a la 'ge trophy, shown in picture at lower left, for the regular season champicnehip, and William Travis Higgs William Travis Higgs, nine months old, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Higgs of Sandston, Va. He is the grand son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Higgs. Mr, Higgs is employed in the Weave Room at the Draper Sheeting Mill. Mrs. Higgs (Marie) is employed in the Weave Room at the Bedspread Mill. Travis recently underwent head sur gery in Richmond, Va., but is doing well now. small individual trophies for the play off championship. Tonya Lynette Cressell Tonya Lynette Cressell, seven months old, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Da vid Cressell of Mar tinsville, Va., and the niece of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gilley. Mr. Gilley works in the Yarn Preparation De partment at the Blan ket Greige Mill and Mrs. Gilley (Hilda) is secretary to Paul Jones, superintendent of the Non Woven Blanket Mill. 12 Years Old Lisa Ann Glasgow Lisa Ann Glasgow, two years old, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Glas gow. Her father is general foreman of Shipping and Storage and Packaging and Stock at Blanket Wareho use. Her mother (Nancy) is a former employee at Bedspread Finishing Office. Randy Gene Bul- llins celebrated his 12th birthday on Oc tober 16. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Monroe Bul- lins of 988 Burton Street, Eden. His father is employed in the Winding De partment at the Bed spread Mill. JAMES E. DOUGHERTY James E. Dougherty has been ap' pointed director of technical services, rug division, replacing J. R. Mauney who has been promoted to division vie® president and general manager-Kara- stan rug manufacturing. Mr. Doughtcry will report to Dr. L. H. Hance, vice president, research and engineering. Mr. Dougherty has been director of process research, Karastan Rug MiUi since 1959. A native of Philadelphia, Pa , he is 8 graduate in textile engineering of the Philadelphia Textile Institute, now the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences. Mr. Dougherty’s background in teX' tiles includes work as a fabric designer with Caledonia Woolen Mills, Clifton Heights, Pa., and Bibb Manufacturing Company, Macon, Ga. He was employed during 1939-1941 by the Philadelphia Quarterm,aster DC' pot in Army Procurement. In that c3' pacity, he traveled throughout the south to inspect contractors’ items. He served in the U. S. Army Quart' ermaster Corps for four years in World War II, entering as a second lieuten' ant and attaining the rank of major. Mr. Dougherty is a member of tb® Technical Committee of the Carpet and Rug Institute and the chairman of two subcommittees.
