Don't Be A Voting Dropout An estimated 140 million citizens will be eligible to vote in this election. Almost 25 million will be voting in their first Presidential election — 11 million between the ages of 18 and 21 and 14 million who have turned 21 since 1968. .Unfortunately, some 47 million citizens failed to exercise their con stitutional rights by going to the polls in 1968. Among the many ex- cuses for this failure were “I was too busy,” “I was away from home,” and My vote couldn’t have changed anything.” In view of the enormous changes facing our country now, all eligible bieldcrest employees and their families are urged to fulfill their civic responsibilty by going to the polls on November 7. Instructor Lloyd Bolt with materials for new first aid course. New First Aid Training To Begin This Month The training and retraining of first aid attendants to meet the technical re quirements of the new federal Occupa tional Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSHA) will be conducted at all of the Fieldcrest plants starting this month. Fieldcrest, of course, has had first aid attendants for many, many years and a large number of employees are graduates of Red Cross courses or of first aid courses developed and con ducted by the Company. However, OSHA regulations state that all first aid attendants must have com pleted a course developed either by the American Red Cross or by the U. S. Bureau of Mines. The Fieldcrest Medical Department selected the Red Cross multi-media course as being best suited for the Com pany’s needs. This course consists of films, workbooks and practice sessions. It can be completed as one eight-hour course or two four-hour courses. The classes will be made up of cer tain key employees selected by their departmental supervisors. It is antici pated that the departmental supervis ors will participate also. Instructors will be Norman Austin, administrative assistant, and Lloyd Bolt, medical technician, both of the Fieldcrest Medical Department. They both hold instructor ratings from the American Red Cross for this course. Certificates, valid for three years, will be issued to all who satisfactorily complete the course. The OSHA regulations require that there be a sufficient number of first aid attendants on each shift to give emergency care to accident victims. At Fieldcrest, the number of first aid attendants for each mill will be determ ined jointly by the plant manager and the Medical Department. A key factor is the availability and proximity of med ical facilities. On Tuesday, November 7, the future direction of this country will be decided. THE M[LL VSirH!CT In this year’s election, the American people will choose a President, Vice President, 435 congressmen, 33 senators, 19 governors and thou sands of state and local officials. Those elected will make major deci sions on issues vitally important to all of us, our families and our friends. Copyright, 1972, Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. Eden, N.
