37 Students Get Educational Grants A total of 37 children of Fieldcrest employees have received educational grants-in-aid awarded by the Fieldcrest Foundation. This number includes 16 most recent recipients announced this week by the foundation. The latest recipients are: Olin Lynn Blackwell, James William Booth, Jr., Sara Elizabeth Carter, Vanessa Gale Chilton, Keith Junius Corriher, Martha R. Farabee, Brenda Kay Green, Denise Darcel Hampton, Charles Irvin Hicks, Barbara Raye Lassiter, Reginald Manns, Doris Jean Rea, Karen Kay Solesbee, Priscilla Dean Spencer, Victoria Lynn Trantham, and Larry Graham Williams. The students pictured are those who earlier received grants. The latest re cipients will be featured in a later edi tion of The Mill Whistle. The grants are designed to aid the children of Fieldcrest employees for technical training, college work and other forms of education beyond high school. The program also recognizes that many individuals may more profitably attend technical institutes or take trade courses rather than attend a four-year college or university. The first grant-in-aid was awarded in May of 1972 to Gloria Mae Staples of Fieldale, Va. She was a member of the graduating class at George Wash ington Carver High School in Fieldale where she had a high scholastic stand ing, and is now a student at Winston- Salem State University. She is the dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Paris P. Staples of Route 3, Fieldale. Her father work ed at the Fieldcrest Lodge at Fieldale for approximately 15 years before his retirement under the pension plan in January of 1969. Other recipients of Fieldcrest grants- in-aid are Charles Michael Brigman, Deborah Kay Davidson, Teresa E. Fain, Gehrig Charles Ferguson, Linda Sue Garrett, Bonnie Y. Gravely, Johnny Gray Greene, Sara S. Haynes, Danny G. Higgins, William Reggie Hundley, Equilla M. Moyer, Sara Lou Murphy, Richard Glenn Nester, Ernest W. Pharis, Deborah Robertson, Braxton Lee Rumb- ley, Carolyn E. Smith, Susan F. Stev ens, Carol Jane Swicegood and Robert Lee Willis. Charles Michael Brigman is a 1972 graduate of Scotland High School. He is attending North Carolina State Un iversity and majoring in textile tech nology. He is the son of- Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd C. Brigman. His father is a fork lift operator at the Laurelcrest Carpet Plant at Laurel Hill. Deborah Kay Davidson is a 1972 grad uate of Oak City High School at Oak City and is a freshman at East Caro lina University where she is majoring in elementary education. Her mother. “Boss of the Year” and Secretary Endicott Is Chosen ‘Boss Of Year’ Raymond O. Endicott, manager of in dustrial engineering services, Eden, has been selected “Boss of the Year” by the Eden chapter of the National Secre taries Association (International). Mrs Mickey Overby, secretary to Mr. Endicott, wrote the winning letter nom inating him for the award. A panel of judges from High Point made the se lection from approximately 25 nomin ations. In the letter nominating Mr. Endi cott, Mrs. Overby noted that he was the first chairman and an organizer of the Eden Human Relations Commission, is presently associate pastor of Leaks- ville First United Methodist Church and also serves as chairman of the organi zational committee for the Dan River District, Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Ekidicott has been employed at Fieldcrest for 26 years. Mrs. Catherine H. Davidson, is man ager of mill accounting at Winchester Spinning Mill, Asheville. Teresa Fain graduated from Morehead High School in 1971 and has complet ed one year of training at the Danvill® Memorial Hospital School of Nursing' Her father, Samuel Leonard Fain, is a technical services coordinator in the Blanket Operation. Her mother, Clau- dine V. Fain, is an inspector in the Bed spread Mill Inspecting Department. Gehrig Charles Ferguson is a 1972 graduate of John D. Bassett High School and is now a student at Virginia Poly' technic Institute and State University for the study of forestry and wildlifO' He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elba A' Ferguson, of Bassett, Va. His father i* employed at the Fieldale Towel Mill- Linda Sue Garrett is a 1972 graduate of Morehead High School and is a stu dent at Appalachian State University majoring in sociology. She is the dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Garrett of Eden. Her mother, Cameron, is eW ployed as a sewer at the Sheet Finish' ing Mill. Bonnie Gravely, a 1972 Morehead High School graduate, is attending the Danville School of Nursing. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Grave ly of Eden. Mr. Gravely is employed at the Bedspread Finishing Mill and Mrs- Gravely (Mae) works at the Sheet FiU' ishing Mill. Johnny Gray Greene attends the University of North Carolina at Char lotte where he is majoring in chemis try. He plans to attend the School oi Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after graduat ing at UNC-C. He is a 1969 graduate of West Davidson High School and at tended Davidson Community College for two years. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. James Kenneth Greene of Spencer His father is employed at the North Carolina Finishing Company division Salisbury. Sara Haynes, a 1969 graduate of Morehead High School, is a senior Appalachian State University and majoring in elementary education. Sh® is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Haynes. Mr. Haynes is a weaver the Karastan Rug Mill. Danny Higgins first attended Wa^e Forest University and graduated froif Pheiffer College with a BA degree i” history in 1972. He is now attending the School of Law at Wake Forest Uni versity. He is the son of Mr. and MrS- W. G. Higgins, Sr., of Eden. His father is a former employee of the Blanke* Greige Mill and his mother (Nannie P-^ is employed at the Blanket Finishing Mill. William Reggie Hundley, a 1971 grad uate of Morehead High School, attend ed North Carolina State University one year.
