Employees Help Form Camera Club I'lllS l«K "ISI-I.VV Hi: Ui Dan Sandlin, left, vice president of the Rockingham Camera Cluh, and Sims Lawson, cluh president, check over a display of prints set up by the club recently in Reidsville. The two Fieldcrest employees were instru mental in forming the club for Rockingham County photo enthusiasts and the Hrst meeting was held this past June. Hawaii, Here I Come! Hawaii, here 1 come! That’s Mrs. Emma Murphy’s motto for 1974. Mrs. Murphy, a coiler tender in the Quilling Department at the Bedspread Mill, took a trip to Hawaii this past summer and she liked it so much she’s goine back in ’74. ^ The group, made up of 205 persons from various area in dustries, left Greensboro by chartered plane for Honolulu, Hawaii on July 2 and returned on July 8. Also members of the group were Mr. and Mrs. William Mumpower of Eden. Mr. Mumpower is a supervisor at the Bedspread Mill. While in Honolulu, the group stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian \ illage. Mrs. Murphy’s big thrill of the trip was a big kiss from Mr Hawaii, Don Ho. He s fantastic, even better looking than on television ” she said 6 Mrs. Emma Murphy And Don Ho. While in Hawaii, Mrs. Murphy also did lots of sightseeing and shopping. She visited an authentic Polynesian village, the Pearl Harbor Memorial, the Oceania floating restaurant and night club, the Polynesian Cultural Center, Punchbowl Crater, and of course, the Don Ho Show, to name only a few. She brought back several Hawaian mumus and lovely Hawaiian-made jewelry. Asked to sum up what she thought of the trip, Mrs. Murphy said. “It was all simply prgeous, and I can’t wait to go back! ° What does a group of people do when they have a special hobby and want to share it with others? If those people are certain Fieldcrest employees in Eden and their interest is photography, they form a camera club for the county. That is what happened last June when Sims Lawson, a supervisor in the Accounting Department at the Karastan Rug Mill, called an organizational meeting to form a photographic society for Rockingham County shutter bugs. That society has now blossomed into the Rockingham Camera Club and Lawson is its first president. When the club first met on June 21, there were seven charter members present. These also included Dan Sandlin, senior mill accountant at the Blanket Greige Mill, and now the camera club’s vice president; Ed , Burroughs, systems analyst at Karastan; and Ken Fancher, then a programmer at Karastan but now living in Massachusetts. The membership has mushroomed to nearly twice the original number and the club has become a very active group. Perhaps the biggest move the club has made came less than a month ago when members decided to join the Photographic Society of America. “I have been thinking about joining PSA ever since we form ed the group,’’ Lawson said. “It is something we need to establish ourselves as an official organization. Plus, it will give us an opportunity to borrow their professionally-prepared pro grams and use their instruction devices. “This will help us all better ourselves in our favorite hob by,’’ he said.
