High School Students Visit General Offices Two groups of high school students have visited the General Offices in recent w'eeks. On April 2, a group of 15 office occupations students from Morehead High School toured the offices. These w'ere co-op students who w'ork part-time and attend school part-time. P\)llow’ing their tour, the group enjoyed refreshments and then heard a short talk by Patsy Barton, secretary to H. H. New'ton, vice president- industrial relations, on the many opportunities offered by Fieldcrest. On April 9, 35 students from Reidsville Senior High School toured the General Offices. They were accompanied by Mrs. Gilliam and Mrs. Woods, instructors. Following the tour and refreshments, Lou Stophel, secretary to Dr. L. H. Hance, vice president, research and engineering, spoke to the students about some of the things which help make a good secretary. Newton Elected President Of Management Development, Inc. (Continued from Page One) Program at UNC-CH, the MDI conducts business management institutes providing an advanced program in cooperation with the Graduate School of Business Administration at UNC-CH. To date, 245 graduates of the Kxecutive Program have taught at approximately 80 institutes, reaching 1,500 executives with its course of study. The MDI business management institute is unique in that it is conducted lor executives by executives and is designed to combine the best of theory and practice in a single program. The new president, Mr. Newton, is a native of Burlington, Vermont, and a graduate of Brown University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He was on military duty for three years beginning in 1950 and served as an infantry officer in Korea. Following his military service, he was employed by The Hecht Company in Washington, D.C., and, concurrently, completed w'ork for a master’s degree in psychology at George Wash ington University. He joined Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., in 1957 and served in a number of positions, including personnel manager at Eden and at Srnithfield, director of industrial relations and, since July, 1969, corporate vice presi dent of industrial relations.
