The Karastan Spinning Mill,
located at Greenville,
manufactures wool and
synthetic carpet yarns for the
Karastan Rug Mill and the
Laurelcrest Carpet Plant, as
well as for outside customers.
Purchased by Fieldcrest in
1%0 and giving employment to
300 people, the 103,188 square
foot facility operates complete
spinning equipment on the
woolen system and the neces
sary accessory equipment,
including a large raw stock
dyeing department. A total of
3,120 spindles are in operation.
Since the purchase bj
Fieldcrest, the facility has been
extensively modernized. It now
operates one of the most modern
blending operations in the
country. The Carding
Department was modernized,
including the installation of the
latest type condensers and other
yarn uniformity equipment.
The Spinning and Twisting
Departments were completely
overhauled and rearranged and
new, modern reels were
installed in the Reeling
