>? 1^' m ri? R? K. M. VAUGHN J. T. LONG, JR. New Appointments Made In new appointments in the sheet operation effective July 1, Kenneth M. Vaughn, previously plant manager of the Sheet Finishing Mill, was named technical manager, sheet manu facturing, and .James T. Long, Jr., was employed as plant manager of the Sheet Finishing Mill. Mr. Vaughn was plant manager of the Sheet Finishing Mill from March, 1973, until his latest appointment and before that was plant manager of the Bedspread Finishing Mill. He is a native of Reidsville and a graduate of Appalachian State University. He joined Fieldcrest as a management trainee in August, 1%5, and was soon promoted to shift foreman in the Packaging Department. He subsequently served as foreman of the Packaging Department, foreman and general foreman of the Drape Department. He was general superintendent of the Bedspread Finishing Mill before becoming plant manager there in January, 1972. Mr. Long has a background of 16 years experience in the textile industry. He was an industrial engineer for Kendall Textile Company and was associated with Ladhams Associates, management consultants to textile industry. He next was plant manager of Southern Phenix Textiles, Inc., at Phenix City, Ala. and immediately before joining Fieldcrest was a management consultant with Charles Brooks Associates. He is no stranger to Fieldcrest since he has several times in the past performed services for the company on a consulting basis. Mr. Long is a native of Newberry, S.C. and graduated from Newberry College with a degree in business administra tion. He is married to the former Jackie Shealy of Newberry who is a registered nurse and certi fied X-ray technician at Newberry County Hospital. They plan to move to the Eden area as soon as housing arrangements are completed. Organization Changes Announced (Continued from Page One) general manager of Columbus towel manufacturing. Mr. Stone was formerly division vice president-bath fashions manufacturing with his office at Fieldale, Va. In his new position he replaces J. P. Kitchens of Eden, who resigned. Mr. Kametches was previous ly division vice president and general manager-Columbus towel manufacturing in Columbus, Ga., and Mr. Ayscue before his new appointment was plant manager of the Columbus Towel Mill. Mr. Stone has been with Fieldcrest since 1957 and served in a number of supervisory and staff positions at the Blanket Greige Mill before being transferred to the Fieldale Towel Mill in 1962. He served in several managerial positions and became division vice president- batli fashions manufacturing with responsibility for mills at Fieldale, Va., Columbus, Ga., -andScottsboro, Ala., in January, 1971. Mr. Kametches, with Fieldcrest since 1961, worked as a quality control engineer at Eden and as supervisor of quality control at the Columbus Towel Mill. Five other employees were honored for 40 years of continu ous service. They are Ralph C. Going, Draper Sheeting Mill; Mallie Hopkins, Blanket Finishing Mill; Guy N. Hairfield, Blanket Greige Mill; Claudine Krantz of Karastan Mill Accounting and Charlie Mack Stegall, Blanket Greige Mill. Each long-service employee has received the appropriate Fieldcrest service emblem, a gift certificate for company merchandise equal in dollar amounts to the years of service, and a letter of commendation from William C. Battle, presi dent of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. Mrs. Brown began em ployment at the old Bleachery on July 2, 1931, as a folder in the Sewing Department. Remaining in the Sewing Department for all of her 45 years of service, she became an inspector in 1944 and remains in that classification at Sheet Finishing Mill. Mr. Going has continuous ser vice since July 6, 1936 but had worked on various production jobs at the Fieldale Towel Mill during the summers while attending college. He became an assistant foreman at the Bed spread Mill Carding and Spinnings Departments shortly after his graduation from North Carolina State University with a B.S. degree in textiles. He became foreman of the Carding and Spinning Department at the Draper Sheeting Mill in 1940. He moved upward to assistant superin tendent, superintendent and general superintendent of the mill and became the plant manager in 1970. He continues to serve in that position. Mr. Hopkins began em ployment in the Napping Department at the Blanket Finishing Mill on July 7,1936, as a learner. He became a napper operator in 1937, a section hand in 1946, and a jig operator, his present classification, in 1948. Mr. Hairfield, a winder fixer at the Blanket Greige Mill, began continuous service on July 7, 1936, as a spinner and doffer in the Wool Spinning Department. He became a fixer in 1950, and after working briefly as a spinner and doffer during 1951, became a winder fixer in the Quilling Department in May of that year. Miss Krantz, a payroll clerk in Karastan Mill Accounting, began continuous service on July 1,1936, as a biffing clerk at the Blanket Warehouse. She became a comptometer operator later that same year in the Budget and Cost Department and in 1940 in the Wage Bureau. She transferred to the Mill Accounting Department in 1941, working first as a comptometer operator, then timekeeper clerk before becoming a payroll clerk in 1954. Mr. Stegall, a warper tender at the Blanket Greige Mill, began continuous service on June 30, 1936 in the Cotton RALPH C. GOING Carding Department.
