Mr. McDonald had been general superintendent of the Laurelcrest Yarn Mill since August, 1973. He has been with Fieldcrest since 1960 when he was employed as a shift foreman in the Dyeing Department at the Karastan Rug Mill. In 1962 he was transferred to the Winding, Beaming and Setting Department where he served as shift foreman, section foreman and foreman. He was promoted to superintendent of that department in August, 1970, and served in that capacity until CARLENE WOOD shows how accident happened. She will be a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she will study dental hygiene. Cathy Lee Chavis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Furman L. Chavis. Her father is a mechanic and carpenter at the Laurelcrest Carpet Mill. She plans to enter Pembroke State University where she will major in business (secretarial). Lisa Evon Church, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Church, will enter Holmes Theological Seminary where she will study religion. Her father is a comber operator at the Draper Sheeting Mill. Penelope Rose Cochran is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gervase N. Cochran. Her mother, Beatrice, is a spinner at the Blanket Greige Mill. Penelope will be a freshman at Piedmont Bible College where she will major in religious education. Betty Carolyn Crumpton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Crumpton, Sr., will enter Appalachian State University as a junior, having transferred from Rockingham Community College. She is majoring in physical education. Her father is a mechanic at the Karastan Rug Mill. Cathy Elizabeth Dillard is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy S. Dillard. Her father is a dryer tender at the Karastan Rug Mill. Her mother is a bar folder at the Bedspread Finishing Mill. Cathy will be a freshman at Johnson C. Smith University where she will major in elementary education. Gary Lynn Easter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Foy Easter. His father is employed at the North Carolina Finishing Company. He will enter A & T State University as a junior, having transferred from Davidson County Com munity College. He plans to major in Agricultural tech nology. Randall Lea Elliott is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Elliott. His father is a general foreman at the Sheet Finishing Mill. Randall will be a sophomore at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he plans to study electrical engineering. Cindy Darlene Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Evans, will enter Rockingham Community College as a freshman and will major in secretarial science. Her father is a loom fixer at the Draper Sheeting Mill. Lisa Garrett is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Garrett. Her mother, Cameron, is a sewer at the Sheet Finishing Mill. Lisa will be a freshman at Appalachian State University (Continued on Page Four) Carlene Wood, a purchasing clerk at the Foremost Screen Print Plant, recently had an accident on the job which could have caused serious injury to one of her eyes had she not been wearing safety glasses. She was pushing a carton into the storage area when her hand slipped on the door and it swung toward her, the knob hitting the lens of her glasses. Had she been wearing regular glasses, she would have been badly cut by shattered glass. The lens of the safety glasses did not break, but popped out of the frame. Mrs. Wood says that she is certainly glad that she was wearing the safety glasses. “I hate to think what would have happened to my eye if I hadn’t been wearing them,” she said. Riggan Is Promoted James Carroll Riggan has been named training supervisor for the Carpet and Rug Division, it has been announced. Previously training co ordinator for the Laurelcrest plants at Laurel Hill, he also had training responsibilities for the Whiteville Plant. A native of Hamlet, he has been employed by Fieldcrest since 1969. He is a graduate of Pembroke State University with a B.S. degree in business administration. Mr. Riggan’s new responsi bilities include the Karastan Rug Mill, Karastan Service Center, and the Karastan Spinning and Worsted Plants at Greenville in addition to the Laurel Hill and Whiteville plants. JAMES CARROLL RIGGAN He is married to the former Jennifer Thomas of Jacksonville and they have two children, a son, James Christopher, seven years old, and a daughter Kimberly Dawn, four years old.
