They are Walter Joyce, a shift foreman in the Cut and Sew Department at the Sheet Finishing Mill, and Jones W. Norman, area personnel manager for the Karastan Rug Mill and the Bedspread Mill. Matthews Receives i Promotioi WALTER JOYCE JONES W. NORMAN Another employee, Buford Bateman, has recently com pleted 40 years of continuous service. He is a Jacquard weaver at the Blanket Greige Mill. Each long-service employee has received the appropriate Fieldcrest service emblem, a gift certificate for company merchandise equal in dollar amounts to the years of service, and a letter of commendation from William C. Battle, presi dent of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. Walter Joyce, who has worked for all of his 45 years in the Sewing Department at the Sheet Finishing Mill, began continuous service as a mangle operator on September 28, 1931. He later worked as a pillow case tearer before being named an assistant foreman in 1946. He became a shift foreman in 1970. Card Of Thanks Jones Norman began continu ous service on October 2.1931, as a shipper at the Karastan Rug Mill. He became a filter plant operator at Karastan in 1935. In 1946 he went to the Industrial Relations Department as an employment manager. He was named a staff assistant in 1949 and personnel director in 1950. The family of Jack Ward and Catherine Berry of the Karastan Design Department wish to express deepest gratitude for the flowers, gifts, and cards sent during the recent illness and death of their beloved Dolores Ward. In 1958 he became a supervisor in the Industrial Relations Department and was named personnel manager for the Karastan Rug Mill and the Bedspread Mill in 1966. He continues in that capacity. Buford Bateman who has worked in the Weave Room at BUFORD BATEMAN Robert L. Matthews has ^ appointed superintendent* weaving at the Draper Shee'j Mill, replacing Vernon Garner who resigned. He worked as a doffer, overhauler and the Blanket Greige Mill for all of his 40 years with the company, began continuous service on September 21, 1936, as a quill collector.
