completed outstanding records of 45
years of continuous service with the
company and four have achieved 40-
year continuous service records.
Management has honored Louise
Austin and Orval McCanless by
presenting each with a 45-year
service emblem, a $45 gift
certificate for company
merchandise and a letter of
commendation from William C.
Battle, president of Fieldcrest Mills,
Inc.
The Fieldcrest employees
completing outstanding records of 40
years of continuous service are
Otis Chilton, Elizabeth Lencses, Dan
Squires and Robert Trexler.
Louise Austin began work at the
Fieldale Towel Mill in 1932 as a
spreader in the Cut and Dew
Department. Later she transferred
to the old hosiery mill where she
worked as a turner, inspector,
examiner and inspector pairer. In
1955 she transferred to the Cut and
Sew Department at Fieldale Towel
Mill where she worked as a towel
sorter, washcloth trimmer and wash
cloth inspector. In 1966 she became
inspector and folder, her present
position.
Orval McCanless started as a
sweeper in the Weaving Department
at Draper Sheeting Mill in 1932. In
1941 he became weaver at that mill
and in 1946 he became a breakdown
man. He has been a loom fixer, his
present position, since 1948.
Otis Chilton joined the company in
1937 as a learner in the Weaving
Department at the Blanket Greige
Mill. In 1946 he was promoted to quill
collector and cleaner at that mill. He
In 1937 Robert Trexler began work
at North Carolina Finishing
Company as a helper in the Dyeing
Department. Later he worked as tub
operator and floorman. Prior to his
present position as section foreman
in the Dyeing Department, he was
assistant dyer.
These four employees have
received 40-year service emblems,
$40 gift certificates for company
merchandise and letters of
commendation from William C.
Battle, president of the company.

Elizabeth Lencses began as a
file clerk in the Fieldcrest
Marketing Division in 1937. She has
worked as an order and file clerk,
statement clerk, bookkeeping
machine operator and secretary. In
1962 she became reservations clerk,
her present position, in the General
Management and Operations
Department of the Fieldcrest
Marketing Division.
Dan Squires joined Fieldcrest as a
color man in the Spinning Depart
ment at the Blanket Greige Mill.
Other jobs he held in that depart
ment include size checker and
timekeeper. In 1946 he transferred to
the Caring Department at Draper
Sheeting Mill as an overhauler
helper. Later he became assistant
foreman and then checker in the
Spinning Department at that mill. In
1949 he worked as a second hand at
the Blanket Finishing Mill and later
transferred back to the Spinning
Department at Draper Sheeting Mill
as assistant foreman. In 1970 he
became a shift foreman, his present
position, in that department.
25-Year Service Award
A 25-year service award is presented to William M. Boyd (middle
J. Melvin Moore (left), division vice president and general manaS
Greenville Spinning Mills, and observed by Boyd’s immediate
visor, James Vincent (right).
Boyd joined the company in 1952 as a bin man in the DyeinS
partment. Other jobs he has held in that department include ^
operator, baler operator and dryer operator. He has been a waren
servicer, his present position, since 1964. ]
25-Year Club Meeting Set
The annual 25-year club meeting
for Columbus Towel Mill and Phenix
City Plant employees will be held
Saturday, October 15 at 6 p. m. at
Fieldcrest Mills Lake.
Thirteen new members will join
the club this year, making a total of
257, 124 of which are active and 133
retired.
