Most of us criticize those that are leading us. I wonder if we could do as well as they are doing. Are we willing to lay aside our own des, ires and follow someone else? Are we willing to believe that someone else can lead as well as, if not better, than we can? We remember v.'hen Christ was talking to His disciples, He said, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross - and follow me.” Christ was the greatest leader that ever lived. He possessed that which drew others to Him. Docs He not likewise expect us to lead others into salvation? Can we not follow His teach ings and commands and be the host leaders possible At least, we should do our best. Christ expects us to be Chri.s- tian leaders, to set a good exam ple so that others will follow us. We must have love and respect for our followers if we want them to follow us. We must put our whole selves into the work and have something for the ones we arc leading. A good leader that everyone ad mires is dependable, friendly, courteous, and trustworthy. He has respect for others, plus cour age, honor and loyalty. He is obedient, sibniissive, and discip lined. A leader should not strive at any impossible heroisms, but should try to do only the things that he is able to do. A Chi'istian leader is one that w'ill bring others into closer fel- lowshi)) with God, and one that will put his trust in God for help and power. —Margaret Mitchell. Breathes there a student with soul so dead. Who never to herself said, “Away with school. I’ll stay in bed.”—“The Blue and Gray.” “I suppose you soldiers are the typo that like wine, women, and song.” “No, we don’t care for mu.sic.” —“The Blue and Gray.” FOLLOWSHIP We can’t all be leaders, but tliere i.s one thing that every one of us can do and that is—be a good follower. When you think of a leader, you almost unconsciously think of certain definite characteristics that a good leader .should pos- .ses.s. The characteristics of a good follower are just as definite and equally important. One characteristic that a good follow'er must have i.s loyalty to }:is leader. In our democratic wa.y of life, we choose our lead- er.s, and in every election more than one candidate is nominated. However, everyone knows from the beginning that only one per- Sion , can be elected. The good follower is one who backs up tlie leader that is chosen, regardless of whether that person is_ the per son he voted for. The good fol- low'er is loyal to his leader ah all times. Obedience to the rules or laws i.s another necessary quality of a good follower. Did you ever crit icise someone very severely for something she did, anu then later, in view of additional information, real ze that what she had done ivas very wi.se ? Perhaps the leaders in school who make the rules and the officials in the out side world who make the laws have more information than we do. Let’s do more obeying and le.ss criticizing. The good follower is also de- jiendable. Since the leader is chosen to lead the group and not as a person who has to do all the work, he must hav’e followers that he can depend on to do what he asks. Dependability, then, is an essential characterislic of a good follower. Blue Monday Tills morning when I arose from my cozy bed; It was blue Monday and I had a pain in my head. The clock ticked on and it w'as time to go Into the Chemistry lab—Those hours sure passed slow!. Then into Bible class I crept And to my sorrow “received a test paper back Over which I almost wept! And then the bell was music to my oars; Across the rain-drenched lawn I sped to get my mail With the usual fears But Alas!, What do you think? The day is no longer blue— Because my dear— I got a letter from you! •—Madeline Honeycutt. ALUMNAE NEWS Ed.’s Notes The Red Cross drive is now go ing on.
