HIGH SCHOOL ELECTIONS Annette Folmar, a Junior in High School, is the newly-elected president of the High School Y. P. C. She is the daughter of Mr., and Mrs. W. D. Douglas.s of Crest- view, Florida, and she attended Crestview High School before coming to Montreat for her sopho more year. Last year she was vice-president of her class. She is now president of the Hiking Club, a member of the High School Y. P. C. Council, Music Club, and Alpha Phi Literary So ciety, and she is a cheer leader for the Shawnee Tribe. Elizabeth “Chinky” Liddell, (laugliter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Liddell of Camden, Alabama, was elected president of the High School Athletic Association for next year. “Chinky,” who has been here for three years, is now President of the Junior Class and “M” Club, and is the Shawnee Tribe Chief. She is also a mem ber of the Glee Club and Alpha Phi. Hey, Jean C., did your boy friend have fun up here a couple of weeks ago? ... 1 hear Anna Maude Hooper is writin,g imper sonal letters to a boy named Jack . . . Could there be some special atfraction in Asheville that draw.s Jean McClain away from Montreat so often ? . . . Hey Kids! Have you seen a change in Dotiy Nichols lately? Could it be that letter from Jimmy? . . . Barbara Head is beginning to change her mind about Dan. May be caused from those letters she has been receivin;>' from her sis ter’s boy fi'icnd' . . . What’.s this on all the desks about Mary Helene and Bobby ?. Could it be Loyo ? . . . Dorthea, the proxido ju.st took in spots, didn’t it? . . . Which one is it, Norma—Owen or Harold? . . SPECIALS When that certain Friday night comes around every month and our reports are given out, every one in Montreat can tell who made “Specials.” Those are the girls who are planning to go home for an extra week-end, or to h'ive an extra date, and are wondering what’s going to be on at the show —those lucky girls! The following are the high school girls on “Specials:” Sen iors—Wanda Pearce, Mary Alice Yarbrough, Peggy Schelling, Mar guerite Fountain, Marguerite Hay- man, Grace Poyser, Olive Osburn. Juniors—Nancy Allison, Jane Holt, Jane Turner, Owen Land rum. Sophomores—Dot Jones, Betty Lance, Jeanette Paffe, Nor ma Williams, Elizabeth Womel- dorf. Rose Melody Pyl'ant. Fre.sh- men—Louise Chandler, Nell Fend er, Charlotte Hook, Betsy Pardue, Mary Anne Phillips, Settle Jo Williams. The Cleveland Symphony Orchestra On March 21 the Civic Music Association of Asheville presented the Cleveland Symphony Orches tra. The Musical Arts Associa tion of Cleveland, Ohio, estab- i'shed the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra in 1918. This Orches tra began with a two fold aim— to provide superior concerts for patrons and to serve the whole community through so-called “popular” performance. This was achieved under the leadership of Conductor Sokoloff until 1933. The Orcl'.estra is supported by hundreds of annual subscribers to the mr.intenance fund. With sur plus money, they visit ami give programs in public schools. But they have not stopped at this, they have gradually pushed their way into all great American head lights. The orchestra is now un der the leadership of Conductor George Szell. Coach—“Did ,you take a show er?” Lambdin—“No, why is one miss- in;;’ ”-^“Thc Blue and Grya.” Dr. Wise: “Do you know Poe’s Raven ” Student; “No, what’s ho mad about?”—“The Blue and Gray.” MRS. CROSBY ADAMS GIVES RECITAL Students and friends of Mon treal College were honored with a complimentary Piano Recital giv en by Mrs. Crosby Adams Satur day evening, March 16. Miss Woodhouse gave her a very fitting introduction, “a writer, teacher, pianist, and friend.” Assisted by Mrs. Clark John.son, she played several duoes: “Choral Prelude,” by Bach; “Love Song,” by MacDowell; “First Arabesque” by Debussy, and “Minuet from Septet,” by Camille Saint Saens. She played several of our favor ites among her own compositions: “Doll’s Music Box,” “Cello Solo,” and “Circling the Christmas Tree.” We miss Mr. Adams and wish him a speedy recovery. 24 HOURS TO LIVE “If you had only twenty-four hours to live, what would you do ? Now think before you answer be cause you don’t want to say any thing you would bo sorry for later on.” For two weeks this question has been going around the camp us and here are some of the ans wers. I might add tlmt the girls had no idea that the.se were to go in print so don’t judge too hast ily. . . . Mary Penny said she would just go to bed and sleep, and sleep, and sleep. Mary De.sChamj)s is going to get a few people told just what she wants them to hear . . . Betty Lee Pool said, “I’d do a lot of praying, then go home” . . ■ Gladys Goodman told me that she would stay in Montreat and do just what she has always wanted to do—take time to walk around and meditate. . . . Kelley was reading when I asked her so she said “I’d finish ‘Forever Amber’.” Edic Mac wants to go back to Clearwater and see the sun.shine once more. . . . Dot Jean said “I’d play one last game of tennis here in Montreat even if it were rain ing.” . . . Jo Aim Reiser is going to pray the whole twenty-four hours. ... Now that you have read thi:s, won’t you please try to think what you would answer if someone came to you out of the clear, blue .sky and asked what you would do if you only had 24 hours to live?
