Write? We want you! Like to?
We need you!!
The first of another school year
has done it to us again. The
DialotJe Staff is sadly depleted
and ill urgent need of aid—but
quick! Are you looking for a
thankless job that pays no money
—no money, that’s true, but it’s
carloads of fun and means that
sense of satisfaction and pride
that comes with the accomplish
ment of a job well done.
The betterment of Montreat
College is the aim of the Dialeite.
As a member of the Staff of Stu
dent Publications, you will have
a very definite part in that proj
ect as carried on through the
press.
Membership on the Staff offers
you a chance to do practical jour
nalism work. Experience is not
required, but a sincere, intense
interest in the work of the Staff
is definitely a requisite for ac
ceptance.
Tryouts will be held in Gaither
Hall this week. Watch
the bulletin board for announce
ments. Have an interview with
one of the executive members of
the Staff. Tell her what phase
you’re interested in, and soon you
may be wearing the green and
white Sun Dial, the embldm of
the S. P. S.
Ilitih School Changes
Its Abiding Place
Well this year the high school
girls are going to meals and
classes from a new direction. In
stead of having to come down the
long stretch from College Hall
and Lookout, we have only to go
down a few steps and across the
lake and we are at Anderson
where we have our classes. We
may have a little farther to walk
to meals, but we scarcely notice a
few extra steps when we know

WHOS WHAT ...
Are you confused? I mean are
you confused about terms like
Board, Cabinet, Council, or S.P.S.?
I was when I was a freshman. I
felt more like a carpenter than a
freshman trying to remember
words like the “Board” or the
“Cabinet.” Well, if anything I
say in this article will help you
become a more informed fresh
man, or oven a bettor carpenter.
I’ll be happy.
First, let’s start with the Cabi
net. Now the Cabinet is composed
of the Presidents of all the big
organizations on the campus. By
the big organizations I mean the
Student Government Association,
The Christian Youth Fellowship,
The Athletic Association and The
S. P. S. (Staff of Student Publica
tions).
Also on the Cabinet you have
the Vice-President and the Secre
tary of the Student Body, the
House Presidents, and Assistant
House Presidents. Each class
elects its own officers and the
Presidents of these classes are on
the Cabinet too. So you see the
Cabinet isn’t so complicated,
is it? Now look, when you have
any suggestions, criticisms, or re
porting to do, go tell a Cabniet
member, because they are inter
ested in you and what you want.
When you want to know about
the hikes or your hours of recrea
tion, ask someone on the Athletic
Board. Look in your Handbook
and find out who is on it; these
are the girls that wear blue and
gold emblems and caps on Satur
day. Anything to do with sports
will be taken care of by your
Athletic Board.
On Tuesdays you have probably
noticed the girls in green and
white. These are the members of
the S. P. S. We are grateful to
them for our paper and annual.
They want your suggestions too.
I know you nave enjoyed all
the different Sunday night pro
grams we have had, the beautiful
religious posters, Morning Watch,
and so many other things made
possible through your Christian
Youth Fellowship.
Well, Fellow Carpenter, there
you have them. They want to
help you—and they need you to
help them. I love fifty-fifty prop
ositions, don’t you?

This fall marks the heginninjr of
a new era in the life of Montreat
College. Our New president. Dr. J.
Rupert McGregor, has assumed
his new dut'es here with offices
in Gaither Administration Build
ing.
Dr. McGregor was born in east
ern South Carolina and is a con
firmed sand-lapper. He attended
Davidson College, Columbia Sem
inary, Union Seminary, and the
Biblical Seminary in New York.
Dr. and Mrs. McGregor met at
I Columbia, S. C., at a spring Car
nival, and from then on. Dr Mc
Gregor declared, “I was helpless.”
He is fond of golf and football,
and has played semi-pro baseball.
He is planning to move to his new
office in Gaither in just a few
days and reminds the girls that
his office door is always open to
them. Dr. McGregor thinks that the
Montreat girls are a fine group,
and he wishes he had a beau on
hand for each one.
Mrs. McGregor, the wife of our
president, is also a South Carolin
ian, from a town with a popula
tion of 75. She is a graduate of
Queens College in Charlotte. Mrs.
McGregor’s hobbies are hiking,
keeping house and taking care of
I her husband. She finds that being
the wife of a college president
j isn’t very different from being a
j minister’s wife. Mrs. McGregor is
looking forward to the day when
she will have her own home here
in Montreat, so she can invite the
girls there.
Miss Sue Burney of Hopewell,
Virginia, is head of the Physical
Education Department. Miss Bur
ney attended Montreat College,
1943-’47, and summer school ac
Woman’s College, U. N. C., this
past summer. She is fond of all
sports—especially horse back rid
ing, swimming, and golf. She
plans to attend Columbia Univer
sity and study for the recreation-
