The people of the United States who spend millions of dollars an nually on cosmetics, liquor and tobacco do have the material means to share with the under nourished and ill-clad peoples of the world. As an economically prosperous nation, as a Christian nation, as a member of the Unit ed Nations, as a world power, the United States is obligated eco nomically, religiously, and politi cally to accept and fulfill her ob ligations to suffering mankind. Numerous addresses of companies who ship these may be found in the New York Times or Christian Science Monitor. An urgent request for several million German Bibles has been made; funds could be directed to the American Bible Society, New York City, for these. “Only on the firm foundation of the word of God can mankind hope to build a civilization based on justice and good will.” The United Nations is planning to set aside one day in 1948 on which to make an appeal for help for the children of the world Watch for this date. We can all take a tip from prize fighters! They respect each oth er’s rights. Gastonia Daily Gazette Simple Logic Proves It— Have you ever stopped to think how much the large depends on the small? Think about a seed and the flower which it may pro duce. Think about the acorn and the oak which it may produce. You may feel that speaking one harsh word won’t hurt. After all, it’s only one. You may speak one unbecoming word—after all it’s only one. But is it only one? Gradually you will find yourself repeating these words, perhaps unconsciously, but nevertheless you are fixing a habit. In the same way you may form the habit of stealing by at first “borrowing” small things from your roommate. You’re sure she “won’t mind.” But what is hap pening to you? Have you ever thought of cheatinjg as stealing another’s work? And yet. it is, isn’t it? Let us plant our seed in differ ent furrows—in furrows of purity and in furrows of honesty.
