From The Alumnae President...
Dear Montreat Students and Alumnae:
It is almost time for our annual meeting, and I am looking forward
to seeing you in Montreat next month. Our annual luncheon will be
held May 22nd, the Saturday before graduation, as usual, and the
business meeting will be held May 24th, Graduation Day. Please try to
come.
Anyone who is a graduate of the college or high school department
is a member of the Montreat College Alumnae Association. There are
a surprisingly large number of persons who fall into^this category. The
number is large enough to form a strong organization which could make
its influence felt, and I hope that we can take steps at the coming
business meeting to get ourselves effectively organized.
My first aquaintance with Montreat College came in 1934. The Spirit
of Montreat met me the first day, and I fell in love with the place.
Some of you have known and loved our Alma Mater much longer than
I, and the years have no doubt served to deepen your affection and
appreciation.
Let us guard the future of Montreat College with all our strength
and prayers. May she always continue to be what she has been, a
greatly respected institution where it is possible to secure an education
of high scholastic value for low cost, and where, to paraphase words of
our great founder. Dr. R. C. Anderson, every girl majors in Christian
education.
Sincerely yours,
Ruth Collette ’36, HS ’34

College’s campus looks rather
boring this month compared to
High School’s. First of all the
senioi's and juniors are all in a
dither about the junior-senior com
ing up the 17th of April. Then
those peculiar people you see
walking around in the afternoon
are the new board of initiatives.
Of course we have personal ex
citement too, such as—^Amber and
Jo Curry exchanging Jim’s for
the banquet; My, Jerry, but that’s
a beautiful ring — Congratula
tions ! ... Of course Mary Belle
has finally returned to us from
Henry . . . We hope Frances
Crane’s husband never has the un
fortunate luck of losing her as we
did . . . Out of the five boys that
Schwenk has invited for the
junior-senior sure’y she’ll have
one date . . . Lib Wilson was late
coming back because she was ill—
Lillian Pittman (H.S. ’47) is in
nurse’s training at Jackson Me
morial Hospital, Miami, Fla.
Louise Peterson (H.S. ’47) is at
tending Queen’s College, Char
lotte, N. C.
Ann Cooper (H.S. ’47) is in
nurse’s training at Emory Uni
versity, Atlanta, Ga.
Norma Williams (H.S. ’47) is
attending Blanton’s Business Col
lege in Asheville, N. C.
those stars in her eyes are caused
from excess rest, no doubt.
We seem to have a certain girl
in the school who can’t decide be
tween Wilton, Copeland, Bill and
Pete . . . Wrinkles, honey, don’t
overwork yourself — you have
plenty of time to take those exer
cises . . . Say Nancy is married?
1 think Jean A. would be a better
guess . . . Well, Deland—have you
found a new gown and Marine?
. . . Who does Jack Davis go to
see, anyway? Virginia or Rita?
Do all Joy’s have a knack for
singing? ... We enjoy secrets
too, Betty Jean . . . We have a
freak in the school. . . . Pour
certain girls seem to care quite a
lot about a house party and Uncle
“Dee Dee’’. ... We may now
formally connect the name Bobby
with Ale.
What has happened to all the
Asheville boys? ... So he speaks
four languages Madge ? We hope
to meet this wonder man some
time.
CHATTER BOX
The long week end seems to
have brought out some interesting
questions. Of all the many things
that must have happened then,
just a few have found their way
into the Chatter box, however. Of
course all the people that stayed
here for the week end were thrill
ed by the fact that the males on
the campus outnumbered the fe
males almost. And the entertain
ment at meals was wonderful. The
most general effect of the week
end seems to be the inability to
study. How about it, Mary Ruth?
Deloris McCain really seems to
have been around over the week
end—with Jimmy ? Betty Attwood
learned a lot about Tennessee,
and not the topography. Now
here is an interesting question.
Did Janet Bound steal Ina
Williamson’s “Charlie” while she
was visiting her ? Some people
have all the luck. Rose Marie
Moore had an orchid from some
mysterious source for Easter.
Speaking of orchids, have you
heard the sad, sad tale of Mary
Alma Church’s orchid? The poor
girl left on Wednesday; the orchid
arrived on Thursday morning and
s.at in Montreat all week end wait
ing for her to come back. Sad, sad.
It is interesting to note the
things that people like. A few ex
amples are; Jean Tyson and Joe;
Catherine Eblen and Bruce;
Alyene Draper and Buicks; and
Jerry Ford and Mars Hill.
Here are a few interesting and
disconnected items of lesser im
port. Did you all know Miss Wat
kins used to be on the stage? She
told her Spanish 100c that she was
anyway. Well? What brought
about Anne’s change of idea about
popular music. Ann who? Did
you know that Ina Williamson and
Sara Johnson turned the lever
that made the lake run dry the
first time? Then the management
decided to dredge it. Hmmmm
Sounds like a good story.
Well, the Chatter Box is empty
for another month, but when you
all begin to fill it up again.
