May, 1948 THE DIALETTE Page 7 CHATTER BOX (Continued from Page 1) men, and they predominate in the Chatter Box, as usual. Querie; Why does Pat Woody hlush every time that she hears the word “Sargent”? Polly Haw kins is reputed to be an authority on photographers. Who makes you look most beautiful? Dot’s eventful weekend in Charlotte was made more so by “Jack.” Here appears even the eternal triangle. Aleyne, Carrie Lee, who is Floyd? Some people are just interested in man in general but Catherine Eble has it narrowed down to the Marines. Like the uniform? Interest about Martha Barrett and a “Southwestern” guy. Texan ? What makes Opal Foster talk in her sleep ? And what is this new use Pat Harley has found for Niagara Palls? Nobody is that practical! That time is slipping by—better count the minutes again, and while yoifre doing it, we’ll slip out. guiding star (Continued from Page 6) rest of the Seniors chimed in with, “Me too!” Mabel Lee Wells is going to be a long way from Cynthiana, Ken tucky, next year when she is a D. R. E. at the Presbyterian Church in Seneca, South Carolina. Mable Lee says she has liked most the people and the purpose that have made Montreat College different from most colleges; al though Montreat is rather isolated and only a girls’ school, you learn how to live with all people. Yankeeland” Auburn, New York, seems to have lost its charm to Jane Bachman. She has chosen to remain in North Carolina next year. “Bachie” is going to teach Social Studies in the Junior High School in Gastonia. It was hard for her to decide after six years in Montreat just what she likes best but probably she says it is that spirit of love and friendship among everyone that has always oxi-ted on the campus. It’s fun to be a Senior until it comes time for graduation: then each of us wish we could begin all 0,-er again. As we go out from Montreat to work here and there We are not really leaving Mon treat, for the spirit of Montreat College will go with us wherever we go and our lives will be guided ky the college ideals, “Shining out as our life’s guiding star.” Did anyone notice anthing unusual about the campus on the weekend of April 17? Seems from the gossip box that several people did. Banquets and hayrides seem to have been in the limelight then; and, of course, where there are banquets and hayrides, there are men! When you get in the vicinity of Room ,8,50 at the Inn all you hear is “Zandy.” Anyone knows who’s talking? Other names you might hear down in that end of the hall are Bill Ray, and the Murdock boys (Charlie, are you sure you can keep them straight?) Mary Helen, did you date Ed or Tom my? Mary Holshouser, is Ken al ready forgotten because of the R. C. boy? Kentucky centainly grows beautiful red roses and cute boys—according to Bradie and Anne. Yolanda, what’s hap pened to Roger since Mickey showed up ? Seems Montreat caji’t even compare with Hender sonville in the eyes of Bitsy, Faye, and Cindy. Jo Ann, can’t you get away from Asheville boys? From all appearances it’s “Bru” now. Now we know why Mary Belle writes a letter every night; and speaking of Henrys, Betty Parker has an interest in one now. Well, Ann Hollman, how do you like Don? Janie, is it Bill or Jack now? Say, I hear that Hop and Bobby have made up. What about it, Hop? Is there anyone who hasn’t seen the picture B. J. Williams is carrying around? B. J. Cooper and Jim seem to have a good time too. What’s this we hear about you, Tish? Martha Brown, how about that date of yours for the Junor-Senior ? Why was Amber so excited about go ing home for the weekend? Morna, what does Matte think of South Carolina? Wait. The Juniors and Seniors aren’t the FOR THE BEST IN GO TO Black Mountain North Carolina Fairy Land You have heard all about those wonderful times when toys play together, and animals talk, and all the flowers dance to fairy music, havert’t you? Well, Mon treat is not without such wonders. If you should happen to peek through the bookstore keyhole at the witching hour some night, what wonderful sights you could see! There are two families living in this candy land. There is Power House and his wife. Butter Finger, and their little daughter. Baby Ruth. Their next door neighbor is Clark and his wife Peppermint Pattie, and their son Oh Henry! (He is quite a terror). Power House and his family live in a little Chocolate Hut while the Clarks dwell in a Coconut grove. Mrs. Clark is one of those clever women who can do things with the least material. She has the cleverest bench in front of her house made just of a Peanut Butter Log! These folks like to do lots of different things, but their favorite entertainment is to get into their Silver Wings and fly down to Mounds along the shore for a Dip. There they sometimes form a Trio to entertain the other members of the families as they sit around on Life Savers, looking at the Milky Way and Mars. But I doubt whether you will ever see this, for the witching hour is very elusive, and the key hole is very narrow! only ones we hear about this month. Prances R., its being said that you have spring fever. Well, if you haven’t, you will because a chap ter of the Beta Club is right here in Montreat now. How can you be long to the Beta Club ? Just get at those books and study. Yes that’s all there is to it, because your grades have to average a certain mark before you are eligible. The Beta Club is a leadership- service organization which was founded to stimulate effort and reward achievement among high school students. The officers are Mary Holshouser, Pres.; Norma Hill, V.-Pres; Jane La Rose, Sec.; and Mary Virginia Brooks, Treas. Let’s everyone work hard so the Beta Club will grow more and more. The Spanish Club presented a very interesting chapel program about the Pan American Union. The stage was set as a classroom with Mrs. Macaulay popping questions about the Pan American Union to the various “students.” “Truth or Consequences” pro gram was given in chapel by the Alpha Phi with Mary Anne Phillips as master of ceremdnies. The consequences were that those who missed their questions had to read their contributions for the Alpha Phi.
