STAFF PARTY
“Ring out the old, ring in the
new” — that’s what the Staff of
Student Publications did on Mon
day evening, April 21. The old
Staff members, those who will not
belong to the organization next
year, gave a supper party to wel
come the newly-elected members.
To be properly attired, the new
members were required to appear
in all-green outfits. Truly, the vari
ous hues and shades of green
which appeared would have made
a son of the Emerald Isle dizzy!
The party was held at the Wins-
iborough Building, which was de
corated with newspaper cut-outs
and furnished with a newspaper-
covered throne.
When the guests arrived, they
were sent off on a scavenger hunt
with a newspaper theme, such arti
cles as headlines and a sketch of
the life of Horace Greeley being
required. Upon their return, the
“scavengers” were served “pigs
in a blanket” (weiners wrapped
in cheese and bread dough), salad
sandwiches, green lemonade, green
jello salad, cookies, green sher
bet, and green mints. (Inci
dentally, green is one of the Staff
colors.)
S. P. S. INSTALLATION
“May the sun shine brightly
upon the pages, of next year’s
DIALETTE and SUN DIAL”—
these words reflect the spirit of
the installation service for the
1949 - 50 S. P. S. executives which
took place in Anderson Chapel
Tuesday morning, April 26. Lib
Miller, former Editor - in-chief,
passed on to Frances Brown the
key to the Staff room as a sym
bol of opportunity for service.
Jane Holt, the new Business Man-
^ffer, received a record book from
Winnie Ferguson; and the new
Advertising Managers, Winnie
Ferguson and Jerry Ford, re
ceived receipt books from Marjorie
Robertson and Martha Atkinson.
The former Associate Editors,
Prances Brown and Bitsy Phil
lips, presented DIALETTE “dum
my sheets” and lists of assign
ments of articles to their succes
sors, Betty Gibbs and Terry Kane.
Jane Holt gave to Margery Wash
burn a book of quotations as a
symbol of the Literary Editor’s
task of preparing material for the
annual.
To close the program, the Staff
members joined in singing their
Staff song, (which, incidentally,
was not new to any of them, since
all the new members had previous
ly served on the Staff.)
Preceding the installation. Miss
Hoyt led the audience of college
and high school students in a
devotional and gave a news sum
mary for the week.

COLLEGE CABINET
On Wednesday, April 6, the new
members of the Montreat College
Student Government Association
took their oaths of office. Carey
Lee Pratt, retiring president of
the student body, gave Evan
Wrenn the gavel of that office,
challenging her, and the other new
members, to the year of service
which lies ahead and assuring her
that with the help of God and of
the student body, she could fill
the office.
Evan accepted the office and,
with the new cabinet members,
took the pledge. Before the sing
ing of the Alma Mater, the old
cabinet filed off the stage, signi
fying the cession of their offices
to their successors.
