VOL. 16, NO. 3.
MONTREAT COLLEGE, MONTREAT, NORTH CAROLINA
NOVEMBER, 1950
Seniors ChoflenAs
Four Superlatives
After much deliberation, the
final selections of the superlatives
of the senior class were made by
the student body. Because there
are so many gifted seniors this
year, it was a very hard task, but
here are the results, the four
chosen as best of the graduating
class of 1951.
Betty Martin was selected from
a number of fine Christian girls
to bear the title, TRUE SPIRIT
UAL VISION. Betty, who is the
vice-president of the S. C. A., lets
her light shine all over the camp
us, and Christ is certainly mani
festing Himself through her.
‘GRACIOUSNESS was bestowed
on tall and attractive Pat Harley.
Pat, who always has a cheery
smile and a friendly word for
everyone she meets, is certainly
worthy of this honor. This, plus
her leadership abilities, makes her
a grand president of the senior
class.
Jane Holt is truly deserving of
her title, JOY IN LEARNING,
and she was accorded this crown
unanimously by her fellow stu
dents. .lane, the Editor-in-Chief of
the S. P. S. is a vivacious and en
ergetic girl and always ready to
lend a helping hand to anyone.
“The best things always come
in .small packages.” This can
truthfully be said of SPORTS
MANSHIP, Alice Wardlaw. Alice,
the president of the Athletic As
sociation, is really a good sport
in everything. Not only on the
athletic field does she show the
fine qualities of a good sport, but
she also displays sportsmanship in
the daily classroom and in her soc
ial life.
There, you have the cream of the
crop. Hats off to you, Super
latives — we congratulate you!
And to the student body—your
choices were indeed wise ones!

Know The Alumnae
The students of Montreat Col
lege will be delighted to see so
many of the alumnae back for
homecoming on Thanksgiving. We
know that the upper classmen are
interested in knowing what most
of them are doing now that their
college days are over, and the
freshmen want to know more about
all the wonderful people they will
meet during the homecoming
festivities.
Here are a few notes of inter

Thanksgiving Plans Are Announced
Miss Mildred B. Allen
Is New Secretary
The student body welcomes an
old Montreat girl back to home.
Miss Mildred B. Allen, new secre
tary to Dr. McGregor, attended
Montreat High School in 1939 and
1940. After her graduation in 1940,
she attended Mitchell Junior Col
lege. Upon completion of her
schooling at Mitchell, Miss Allen
journeyed down into St. Peters
burg, Florida, where she worked
for the big newspaper, the
TIMES, for three years.
Naturally her talents were soon
uncovered and so she joined the
Florida State Advertising Com
mission, where she was a staff
writer and field director of photo
graphy for national magazines and
syndicates. Even in the past eight
een months, she has hardly had
time to catch her breath for she
has been a student of the Florida
Everglades.
So you see, Miss Allen has
really accomplished a great deal
since she bade Montreat a fond
farewell in 1940. We know you
will be an asset to Montreat, Miss
Allen, and we sincerely hope that
you are as glad to BE back as
we are to WELCOME you back.
Faculty Members Attend
N. C. College Conference
On November 8 and 9, Dr. J. R.
McGregor, Dean JoeEd Hollis, Mr.
.lohn Miller, and Mrs. Tallulah
.1. Maund attended the meeting of
the Annual North Carolina College
Conference held at the Robert E.
Lee Hotel in Winston-Salem. Dr.
McGregor, in chapel one morning,
told us of some of the interesting
events that took place. Tlie others
who attended have given many
favorable comments about the dis
cussions they had, and of the en
tertainment at Salem College.
One of the most important days
during the year at Montreat is
Thanksgiving Day. It is a day to
which faculty, students, and alum
nae all look forward. This year
Thanksgiving here is especially
important, for it marks the estab
lishing by the Class of ’51 of the
annual Homecoming.
This year Thanksgiving, Novem
ber 23, begins appropriately with
a regular church service at 9:30
A.M. in Gaither Chapel. Mr. Will
iams will conduct the special ser
vice.
At eleven o’clock, the Montreat
School will have a soccer game on
the athletic field. The “M” Club
of the School will play the varsity
team.
For the alumnae who have re
turned to revisit familiar scenes,
there will be an Alumnae Lunch
eon at 12:30 P. M. at the Assembly
Inn. There will also be a tea for
the alumnae in Howerton Hall
from 4 to 5.
After lunch, at 2 o’clock, the
college will have its soccer game.
The “M” Club of the college will
play the varsity team.
Climaxing an exciting and full
day will be the annual Thanksgiv
ing Banquet at 7:00 P. M. in As
sembly Inn. The banquet will be
either formal or semi-formal. The
banquet this year is in charge of
the Senior Class. The speaker for
the evening will be Dr. Walter F.
Dickson.
This year Thanksgiving prom
ises to he one of the most enjoy
able and inspirational Montreat
has ever had — perhaps it will
even be the best.
WELCOME ALUMNAE
We couldn’t have
nicer guests for
our Thanksgiving
activities.
