(2) Alumnae Dues $1.00 per year. Send check or money order to Janet Bound, Secretary-Treasurer, Montreat. A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT Those of us at Montreat, with our trust ees, and all who love Montreat, are thank ful for our Alumnae. We recall with grati tude what you are and what you are doing. Frequent reports from many places assure us that each of you has a place of great usefulness, and leadership in your commun ity and church. You are the best word that can be spoken for Montreat School and Montreat College. W’e may want for some physical equipment and that which a large endowment could do for us. We are not wanting in pride of our girls. We sincerely^wish that each one of you could make a visit to Montreat and come to know again, at firsthand, just what is being done by the well-qualified faculty we have and our student body of wonderful girls. I am confident you would go away with increased joy in being a Montreat girl. How wonderful it would be to have a dinner with the senior girls and Miss Miles in the home where they are doing their Home Management Practice. I know, it was my privilege to have dinner with them last night. Then, you would not recognize the Business Education Depart ment with its large, airy rooms and great ly increased equipment. You would thrill as you see the group of nineteen seniors leave early in the morning to be at the schools where they are getting their prac tice training in teaching. As always, there is emphasis upon our spiritual program as it touches every phase of our college life. We are especially grateful for those who foster this vital part of our life and that for which we exist. I wish I could express my gratitude to every professor and staff member of both institutions, and review something of what they are doing. We are to count upon our own girls those who know us best, and love us most’ to lead in that which will mean the de velopment of Montreat. I will list two things that you can do for us: First: Work definitely to interest girls in coming to Montreat. You can really do more for us here than any other one group. Second: Have a personal share in pro viding funds which are necessary for Montreat’s development. Use your influence wherever possible to enlist other contrib utors. I would list things which are pressing needs for development of Montreat. 1. Enlargement of the library fac ilities. 2. Enlargement of the Science Depart ment equipment. 3. Physical Education Building. 4. Increased endowment to provide a scholarship aid for worthy students, am an increased budget for the operation o the college and school. We are greatly encouraged at the in creased support of Montreat. Gifts are many times what they were five years ago. We are confident that friends and the Church are going to provide that which is needed for this important institution of our church. We beseech of you, our alumnae, that you cease not to pray for us. This is a most important thing you can do for us, and it is the one thing all of you can do. The chain of Montreat girls praying fen this institution will make it possible fen it to achieve its highest place in the Plan of God for it. ' . Every member of the faculty and staf joins me in warm greetings and hes wishes. Cordially yours. President CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE Montreat College has many things that she can be proud of, and one of those things is her Music Department. We have two choirs. One is the church choir composed of thirty-seven members, which renders an anthem at the Sunday morning worship services. The choir mem bers look forward most to the time when they perform at the music festival held in the spring each year at Mars Hill Col- ege They join with the other colleges in Westein North Carolina in singing sacred hymnS’ anthems, secular numbers, and spirituals. The Inner Choir is made up of twelve members selected from the church choir. Ihey perform mostly for the nearby Vet eran Hospitals at Swannanoa and 0 ee • On the first two Sundays of each nio” ^ they render a selection for the co ore and white church services. They a'so pe_^ form occasionally for the veterans iR ® “coffee hour” which is held on Sun ^ evenings. The Inner Choir is frequen called upon by various organizations Montreat and Black Mountain. The choirs, under the direction o Elizabeth Woodhouse and accompanie Miss Elizabeth Pappas and Me- ^ i. clair, enjoy singing for all the dif churches and organizations who call ’JP them.
