Dr. James G. Patton To
Speak At Commencement
Dr. James G. Patton Jr., Executive Sec
retary of the General Council of the Gen
eral Assembly, Decatur, Ga., will deliver
the commencement address at Montreat
College on May 26 at 10 o’clock. Since
receiving his B. A. degree from Davidson
College and his B. D. degree from Un
ion Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va.,
Dr. Patton has had pastorates in Georgia
and Virginia.
Dr. Patton served as First Lieutenant
in the U. S. Army in World War I. Prior
to becoming Executive Secretary of the
General Council, Dr. Patton served as
Secretary of Stewardship of the General
Council in Atlanta.

Elects New Ollicers
In February the student body of Mon
treat Preparatory School for Girls elected
the leaders of their four main organiza
tions for next year.
The President of the Student Body is
Virginia Lee Muse, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. J. A. Muse, Jr. of Dante, Va. Since
she has been in Montreat, Virginia has
been representative of the Junior class.
Secretary and Treasurer of the Cabinet,
Treasurer of the “M” Club and of the
Council.
Mary Ann Worley, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. D. R. Worley, of Marshall, N. C., has
been elected president of the Senior High
Presbyterian Council. In previous years
she has served as President of the Sopho
more class. Vice President of the Coun
cil, and Blackfoot Tribe Chief.
As Editor-in-Chief of the Lookout, Helen
Grantz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H.
Grantz, of Brooklyn, N. Y., was elected.
Helen has been Junior class President,
Secretary and Treasurer of Alpha Phi and
a co-worker on the Council.
Nancy Broce, daughter of Mr. Vernon
Broce of Cambria, Va., was elected Board
President. Nancy has served on the Board
as Head Cheerleader, and has been Sopho
more and Latin Club Treasurer.

The Music Department of Montreat Col
lege presented John Sinclair, pianist, in
his third faculty recital Saturday, March
15.
Mr. Sinclair has been instructor of piano
here since 1950. He is an accomplished
pianist, having received his Bachelor of
Music degree from Louisiana State Uni
versity, his diploma in piano from Julliard
School of Music in 1950.
Mr. Sinclair has given concerts in eight
states and was twice chosen to be soloist
with the New Orleans Symphony. He ac
companied Ruth Shaffner, soprano of New
York City, for two years, giving his own
solo concerts during this time.
He played in Carnegie Hall at the
opening of the third war bond rally in
1945, and was soloist on the coast-to-coast
broadcast, “The Road Ahead.’’ He also
gave a concert in Montreat during the
Won an’s Conference last summer.
Mr. Sinclair has a large following
among students and music lovers and has
been spoken of by critics as “spirited and
dynamic in interpretation.” His person
ality distinguishes him as a popular friend
as his ability speaks of him as an artist.
His program for the recent recital in
cluded Chaconne, Bach-Busoni; Sonata, Op.
110, Beethoven; Nocturne, Op. 27, No. 1;
Etude, Op. 25, No. 6; Etude, Op. 25, No.
8; Fantaisie, Op. 49, Chopin; Scherzo
Valse, Chabrier; Ce qu’a vu le vent d’Quest
and Hommage a Rameau, Debussy; Jeux
d’eau and Tocatta, Ravel.
His audience was delighted with his per
formance and applauded him on to five-
encores which included Maidens in the
Garden, Mompou; Puck, Grieg; Confidence,.
Mendelssohn; Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desir
ing, Bach-Bauer; and Clair de lune, De
bussy.
