S. A. Conference On February 29, four very excited girls and Miss Maxwell left Montreat in the station wagon for the University of N. C. to attend a regional conference of the National Student Association which in cluded colleges and universities from the Carolinas and Virginia. The two-day conference was very in teresting and the discussions were en lightening—comparing the systems of dif ferent schools. Representing our Student Government in the discussion groups were Patricia Williams, student body presidents, Faye Britt, orientation programs, Colleen Story, honor system, and Jolene Parks, editors of student publications. The girls gave a chapel program when they returned, and the student body also feels that the conference was an inspir ational one and hopes that some of the ideas that they presented can be carried out at Montreat. Montreat Preparatory School for Girls has different effects on different people, but one of the first things that impressed me was the Christian atmosphere. Church, Sunday School, P. Y. F. programs and daily chapel services all go to make us feel that we are here for one common purpose—to accept the Christian opportun ities that it offers. Montreat has many cultural advantages. It is an advantage to be able to walk across the campus and on the way speak to a girl from Cuba, Mexico, or Korea. There ai-e many concerts by our own fac ulty, and plays by different organizations here in school. I think that it would be hard to find a school any better qualified than Mon treat to provide a thorough college pre paratory course. Here we are assured of receiving the best. Outside the school life, there are organizations to fit each indi vidual interest, whether it is scholastic, spiritual, journalistic, or athletic. I think that the most important thing we learn here in Montreat is that we have to put into life what we expect to get out of it. Here we learn to put into prac tice the Golden Rule, and got along with different types of people. We learn to make our own decisions and stand on our own two feet, preparing for that day when we’ll be “on our own.” Nowhere can there be found a place as beautiful as Montreat. It is beautiful in scenery, spiritual life, and in friend ship. By accepting the opportunities that Montreat School offers us, we can add to this beauty.
