M., Monday, May 26 Mary Ann Smoak To Give Redial Miss Mary Ann Smoak, soprano, was presented by Montreal College music de partment, Tuesday, May 13, in Gaither Hall in her junior 'voice recital. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Smoak of Aberdeen, N. C. She will graduate in 1953 with a B.A. de gree, majoring in voice and religion. She has been a member of the Montreat Col lege Choir for three years, and the Inner Choir and College Chorus for two years. She has also been president of the Music Club for two years, and was head of the music group of SCA last year. Mary Ann has been interested in music since a little girl. She has studied piano for five years, and has studied voice at Montreat under Miss Elizabeth Woodhouse and Mr. Robert Thatcher. Mary Ann is lovely in personality and character; her bright eyes and warm smile have combined with her voice to put her well on her way to the top. Jerome Saturday, May 24, 1952 8:00 P.M. Students To Pertorm In Spring Concert Twelve students of the Montreat music department will perform in a Spring Re cital to be held on May 23. This program, presenting students of Mr. John Sinclair, instructor of piano, and Mr. Robert Thatcher, instructor of organ and voice, will be presented in Gaither Chapel. Pianists for the performance will be Elinor Ammons, playing “Polkass from THE AGE OP GOLD, Shostakovitch; Jean Booth, “Valse Brilliante in E Plat Major”, Chopin; Ivey Dee Chaffin, “La plus que lente”, De bussy; Betty Lown, “Hungarian Dance No. 7”, Brahms, and “Golliwogg’s Cake Walk”, Debussy; and Carolyn Williams, Polanaise Op. 20 No. 1, Chopin. Eugene Hudson, special student from Black Mountain, N. C., will play Ballade in A Flat, Chopin. “Malaguena,” by Ernesto Lecuona, in a two piano arrangement, will bo played by Jean Booth and Carolyn Williams. Also on two pianos, “The Harmonica Player”, by Guion, will be played by Ivey Chaffin and Frances Mouzon. —Pease Turn to Page 2 The address to the seniors of both Mon treat College and Montreat School will be given by Dr. James G. Patton, Jr., at the Commencement exercises in Gaither Chapel on May 26, 1952, at 10 o’clock a.m. Dr. Patton graduated from Davidson College and Union Theological Seminary and now holds the position of Executive Secretary of the General Council of the General Assembly, with headquarters in Decatur, Georgia. His former pastorates were in Georgia and Virginia. On May 25, 1952, the baccalaureate ser vice will take place in Gaither Chapel. The speaker for the occasion will be Dr. Will iam McCorkle, a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Dr. McCorkle attended Citadel Military College, and Union and Princeton Theo logical Seminaries. Having held pasto rates in both Tennessee and Missouri, he is now working in the Department of Church Extension in Atlanta, Georgia. He has become well-known for the excellent 'work he accomplished in the position of chap lain for the United States Mai'ines. Kappa Pi Bela Inviles Several New Members Last week Kappa Pi Beta invited into their membership the following people as a result of spring try-outs: Olivia Bishop, Ivey Dee Chaffin, Coretta Henson, Joan Hunsberger, Leta Rose Miller, Evelyn Mor ris, Hilda Flecker, Jolene Parks, Janet Ruth Smith, Colleen Story, and Prances Thorne. The contributions were interest ing and original, and will be on display in the library. We are very happy to have these girls in the club and are looking for ward to a good time next year with them. The last meeting of Kappa Pi Beta for this year will be in the form of a supper party on Monday night. May 12, after which the group will go to Asheville to a show.
