The DIALETTE is the official newspaper of Montreat College, and is published monthly by the Dialette Staff. Its purpose is to give the student a fair and unpre judiced view of canipus life. Barbara Warren was elected captain of the Blue team and Peggy Kyle was elected captain of the Gold team. The tournament lasted five days and three games were played each day. After a hard fight the Blues were victorious, winning one more game than the Golds. WE LIVE IN AN AGE Which thinks that being lost in the woods is a new freedom. Which, having made a mess of civilization, petulantly cries, “Why doesn’t God do something?” Which, because it substracts faith, multi plies fear. In which men demand education for their children, but decline discipline for themselves. When desire is deity and realization is futility. Which puts the highest premium on know ledge, but when it gets it, it doesn’t know what to do with it. Which seems to think it has robbed death of its sting by transforming the cem etery into a ‘memorial park.’ Which boasts of its unbelief, instead of being ashamed. Which believes religious fakirs and follows political quacks, but thinks itself too intelligent to accept the Word of God. Which prepares for everything, even for ‘rainy days,’ but fails to prepare for eternity. —Moody Monthly Consecration Corner “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” (Col. 3:16) Our Lord Jesus Christ told us that with out Him we are nothing, but if we abide in Him, we shall bring forth much fruit. (John 15:5) There is a condition to this blessed privilege of abiding in Christ. In John 15:10, Jesus said, “If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father’s command ments, and abide in His love.” Yet, how can we keep His command ments if we do not know them? The Bible contains Christ’s commandments, and we read the Bible. Isn’t our reading quite often like the man who beheld himself in a mirror and went away, forgetting' im mediately what manner of man he was? Paul exhorted young Timothy to study the Word (II Tim. 2:15). Studying has a more lasting effect. Dig deep into the scriptures, the living Word. Discover what message these inspired men of God had for the people of their generation and, since truth is truth, and human nature doesn’t change, what message the scrip tures hold for us today. God commanded Joshua to meditate upon His Word. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do ac cording to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8) In the quiet of your “closet” take time to “think on these things.” Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the “deep things of God” to you. (I Cor. 2:10) The psalm ist cried, “Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law.” (Ps. 119:18) The Lord has so many things to reveal to us; but as we tell only our faithful friends the things that are upon our hearts, so He reveals His won drous secrets to His faithful friends. “Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” (Ps.ll9:ll) Memorize the Word. Of course, this isn’t easy, but how it pays off! Mankind isn’t interested in our opinions, but how it longs for the Word of God. Doesn’t it thrill you when Billy Graham holds up his Bible, exclaiming, “The Bible says . . .”. God commands us to memorize scripture. “My son, keep My Words and lay up My Commandments with thee . . , write them upon the table of thine heart.” (Proverbs 7:1-3) NEW STUDENTS Montreat College has had the pleasure of welcoming three new students who en tered in January for the second semester. Lassie Mullins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ramey Mullins of Pilgrim’s Knob, Virginia, attended Whitewood High School, Whitewood, Virginia. Lassie is majoring in Elementary Education. She tells us that she already loves Montreat. Patricia Ann Priest (better known as Pat) is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Priest of Morriston, Florida. She at tended Williston High School. Pat hasn’t decided on her major subject, but she says she’s quite sure that she wants to come back to Montreat next year. Frank Csapo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Csapo, was born in Hungary. He attended high school in a city called Hajduboeszoermeny. (That name really isn’t hard to pronounce. Just fill your mouth wiih cotton, add some molasses, and repeat the letters of the alphabet. Simple, wasn’t it?) Frank worked for several years in Buffalo, New York, before coming to Montreat. He is majoring in phychology and Bible. Then had thy peace been as a river and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea.” (Is. 48:18) And, 800 years later, Jesus said, “He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:21) “Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me.” (John 5:39) “Ye are are my friends if ye do what soever I command you.” (John 15:14) Dialette
