DR. MONROE NEW DEAN
Schoens Tell About
Va(ation In Europe
Mr. and Mrs. Victor R. Schoen have re
turned to Montreat after having spent the
summer in Europe. They lived in Salzburg,
Austria, where they studied duo-pianism
the entire summer.
Their trip really began May twenty-
second when they left New York on the
Queen Mary. Upon their arrival in Cher
bourg, France, they took a boat train to
Paris. They toured the city for several days
and saw, among other things, the Louvre,
Noire Dame, Mont Parnasse, and the Eiffel
Tower.
After leaving Paris, Mr. and Mrs. Schoen
stopped briefly in Strasbourg and Munich
before going on to Austria. While in Salz
burg they lived with Herr and Frau Winter
and their children Helmut and Heidi. The
Austrian family was described as “delight
ful.”
Sightseeing expeditions continued for the
Sehoens even after they reached Salzburg.
One of these took them to a mountain lake
called Koenigsee, which is near Berchtes-
gaden, Germany. The catch is that they
rode the entire distance of forty-two miles
(round trip) on bicycles.
In Salzburg, Mr. and Mrs. Schoen studied
under Heinz Scholz, at the Mozarteun Aca
demy of music. This is the school in which
Mozart studied and is, of course, a very
outstanding one.
During the festival season, Mr. and Mrs.
Schoen gave a performance in which they
played Bach’s C Major two-piano Concerto.
This concerto is one of the selections they
will play in their concert which is sche
duled for Saturday night, October 30.
Their summer with its many long-to-be-
remembered events ended August thirty-
first with their return to the United States
on the Queen Elizabeth.

With the coming of fall, the yell of “Let’s

The daily athletic program offers the
