Honor Pledge Signed In
Student Body Meeting
By Genevieve Landrum
The Student Body participated in the
pledge signing service on Thursday, No
vember 4, in Gaither Chapel. The chapel
was lit only with candles; and Cabinet
members with candles stood at the end
of the front benches, showing the different
classes where they were to sit.
Louise Bennett opened the service with
a devotional, after which Evelyn Morris
spoke on the signing of the pledge as a
matter of personal honor. She pointed
out that in signing this pledge the stu
dent gave her word to uphold the honor
system and the standards of Montreat Col
lege. At the close of Evelyn’s talk, a
small group of the girls sang “Lord, I
Want to Be A Christian in My Heart.’’
The girls left the chapel according to
classes and went to certain rooms, where
they signed the pledge, after reading it
aloud. Then they returned to the chapel
for the remainder of the service.
The service closed with a hymn, a prayer,

Annual Thanksgiving Festivities Are Held
Thanksgiving Day at Montreat is always
an event to remember, and the 1954 holi
day was no exception. The customs of
Thanksgiving were followed -in a iovely
fashion, so that each person was inspired
by the occasion.
The annual banquet was the high point
of Turkey Day festivities. The Senior
class decorations followed the traditional
theme of autumn and transformed the
cafeteria completely.
The program was begun by Senior class
president Margaret Barrett, who welcomed
students, faculty and guests, followed by
Rev. Stanley Bennett with the invocation.
Entertainment was provided by a choir
group who sang several numbers. Dr. J.
R. McGregor, college president, presented
several prominent guests and introduced
the main “"Speaker of the evening. Miss
Joan Winmill..
Miss Winmill said that England was
quite grateful to America for many things,
but that the evangelistic crusade conduct
ed by Dr. Billy Graham and his team was
by far the most wonderful thing we have
ever given them. Miss Winmill told how
she had worked for and achieved success
as an actress, only to find that there was
something lacking' in her life, something
which fame didn’t bring. It was only when
she took the Lord Jesus into her heart and
dedicated her life to Him, during the
London crusade, that she found this peace
and joy for which she had longed, she
told us.
The testimony of Miss Winmill’s exper-
