McGREGOR LETTER— From Page 1 We are also encouraged at the way the Alumnae Fund is growing. We are quite sure that our girls are going to measure up percentage-wise with the support any other college receives from its graduates. You may not be able to send a large amount, but if all send what they can, the total sum will be large. Wc need many things at Montreat. Among them, certainly, is an Alumnae Secretary, who will organize and direct this department for us in a fine way, and who, also, can give some time to recruit ing students. As soon as the money is even in sight, we Will take definite steps to provide this. The total amount paid to teachers is more than 100 per cent what it was ten years ago; yet, salaries are entirely too low, and these must be increased. It can only be done, of course, as we receive larger gifts. We are profoundly grateful for those who made possible last year gifts amounting to $88,000.00 for the current operations of the college. Do you not know someone to whom you could speak who would be interested in letting us share in their benevolent giving? You have heard, I am quite sure, of the gift of $100,000.00 towards a Social-Kccrc- alional Hall or Gymnasium. We needed to provide $75,000.00 more for this. The Montreaters Plan For Summer Montreat College is known for producing fine Christian workers, young women who enjoy using their talents for Christ. This summer many of the students arc planning to devote their time and talents to church work. The following list con tains only a few of those who plan to do this. Barbara Dorton is planning to work at the First Presbyterian Church of her home town. She will work in the Bible School, teaching first and second grade children. Emily Mohler of Natural Bridge, Vir ginia, is going to be Director of Christian Education at the Kenilworth Presbyterian Church in Asheville, North Carolina. Ann Cox, of Kentucky, plans to go back to her home state. She will work in Whitesburg at the Graham Memorial Bap tist Church. Her special duties will in clude being in charge of all the Church May, 1956 foundations for the building are laid, and the walls are well on the way, and we are proceeding just as though we had the ,$75,000.00. We sincerely hope and pray that we will not have to stop construction before it is finished. Any gift towards this helps wonderfully. We also received a gift of $15,000.00 for purchasing new books for the library. The total amount of the gifts which we have received in about three months is approxi mately $300,000.00. We think this is won derful, and to us, it is an evidence of God’s favor upon the college, that which it stands for and that which it is doing. Wc believe that it means we are going to receive larger gifts. I am sure you will join in very definite prayer for this. Wc have our largest graduating class since the college became a senior college. These fine young women are preparing to make a real contribution in their chosen vocations in their communities and in their homes. We are glad to report that none of them will have any difficulty in securing a splendid position in the church and as school teachers. We do sincerely hope that you can plan for and be here at Commencement. Mrs. McGregor would join me in the wish and prayer that you may know full satisfaction and complete joy in the achievement of life’s fullest blessings. Ann Bullard, Sabra Slay, and Kathy Steele also plan to stay in Montreat as workers in the Girl’s Club. Other Montreat girls have inclinations toward doing church work this summer but have not yet made any definite plans.
